Delaying tactics

Monkey is the master of delaying tactics at bedtime.  Sometimes I get cross; I’ve got things to do downstairs, I’m tired, friends coming round, blah blah blah. Sometimes I laugh and join in.

Tonight I just enjoyed it all; the extra cuddles, the headlock to wrestle me onto his pillow, the ‘please Mummy, just one more story’, the ‘Mummy, Teddy needs a kiss, Moo Moo needs a kiss’, the singing.

It’s all too easy to rush through life and these little experiences, and take it all for granted.  3 years have gone by in a flash; what will he be like at bedtime when he’s 6, and at school?

I just realised – forget the time, sit back and enjoy it, take it all in, value it, it’s a special time with my little boy.

My little Monkey will be a big Gorilla before I know it!

About Over 40 and a Mum to One

I'm a Mum in my late 40′s with a 7 year old son. I had a busy life in Export Sales before my Monkey came along, but decided to become a stay at home Mum once he arrived. Now I enjoy writing my own family lifestyle and travel blog. sharing the adventures that we have as Monkey makes his journey through school. We have a cat called Brewster who makes appearances and I’m a mad Ferrari Formula 1 fan, so that expect to hear about as each season unfolds. We love reviewing toys, games and books and would love the opportunity to look at anything that fits in with our family lifestyle. We are always out and about and offering an insight on the places we visit, with a passion for nature thrown in for good measure. If you like what you read please leave me a comment, I love to hear from people, and always try to reply. 1. My kids are much bigger and they are MASTERS at bedtime delaying tactics. Frankly I’ve had enough of it! They’re not cute any more, they just mess around. Plus my boys are expert at what conversations to have with Daddy so he lets them get away with it! But totally understand you wanting to enjoy cute bedtime with your little boy. I still enjoy it with my 7 year old girl – she’s still cute!

  2. I love this! I can relate so much. Eliza is exactly the same, actually she’s much better now but believe me she’d give Monkey a run for his money in her heyday. She had some crackers. ‘I need a poo’ was always the one guaranteed to get my attention. And then the long, drawn out, rituals we had to go through. 2 stories, 1 song, 3 head strokes, mummy on the floor, then by the door, then finally through the door, down the stairs and into a large glass of wine! Fun times 🙂

  3. What a cheeky little gorgeous face he has. My daughter is 6 now and she doesn’t try it on at bedtime as much as she used to. I still enjoy the slightly prolonged saying goodnight of kiss blowing and heart throwing 🙂 Thank you so much for linking up with PoCoLo and for your support x

  4. A lovely post. It’s always good to have a reminder that even the little annoyances should be treasured before they’re gone.
