We love Penguins in this house. Well, my son had no choice really as I LOVE them, luckily he thinks they are really funny, so we share the love.
When I was introduced to The Toadstool and their range of Wonderworld Eco series products through their Fan of the Week promotion I discovered the Penguin Rescuer Game and knew we were going to have to add it to our game shelf.
The game comes with, a play board, 12 rubberwood Penguins, 3 rubberwood Icebergs, 40 double-sided cardboard ice blocks (the other side shows a nasty killer whale) and a dice – 4 sides have environmentally friendly activities and 2 have non-environmentally friendly activities. The game is for 2-4 players aged 3 years and over – perfect for my son and us 🙂
The penguins start the game perched on top of the three melting icebergs due to global warming :(, and the aim of the game is to use ice blocks to pave a way for the Penguins to get to safety of the mainland. The ice blocks have different coloured edges so you also have to think about matching them correctly for the escape route. The winner is the person who rescues the most Penguins, but you really need to work together as a team. If you roll the dice and get an environmentally friendly activity you can put an ice block down, but if you roll a non-environmentally friendly activity you have to flip the ice block over to show the Killer Whale which blocks the Penguin’s escape route.
It’s a great game, very different from anything we’ve seen before. There’s quite a lot for my son to take in, so he hasn’t managed a full game with us yet, but actually, Daddy P and I enjoy finishing it by ourselves! I’m sure over the next few months as he grasps what the game is about, he will get more absorbed in the gameplay.
This is our vlog
As I mentioned earlier I purchased the Penguin Rescuer Game through The Toadstool, it currently retails at £19.50 (2013). This is a bit more than I would normally pay for a children’s board game, but I love the message and feel it has a different twist on an educational theme, so therefore, good value for money.
Disclosure: The game mentioned was bought by myself and the opinions expressed are my own, honest thoughts.
This actually looks like a lot of fun and very different to the “usual” games. I love the fact that it has an educational message too x
It’s great and very unusual, I love the idea behind it. The Game is being featured as part of #EarthDayatWW
I really like the look of this too. It’s good that there are 4 different ways to play. Lovely video 🙂

It’s very different, think Monkey will get the idea over the next few months. We’ve started using the penguins to help with his counting at the moment 🙂
What a great game this looks – board games are so much more innovative these days. I guess they have to be to compete with computers! Thank you so much for linking up to PoCoLo lovely xx
Too true!, I love good old fashioned board games and this has a very modern message. Enjoying #PoCoLo as always x
