Falconry Centre at Millets Farm

Twit Twoo! Off to the Falconry Centre we go

As you will know from my previous post we love Millets Farm Centre, the last time we visited I noticed that they were going to be opening a new Falconry Centre on 4th May.  We love birds, so I made a note in my diary and planned to visit today, we arranged to meet friends and have a picnic there.  When I got up this morning it was raining and really dull – where had the sunshine gone!!!

Anyway, we are a hardy bunch.  I packed up the picnic along with rain macs, suncream, hats, wellies – all bases covered for a typical Spring day in England.  Off we went.

According to the website for Millets Farm Falconry the first flying display would be at 11.30am so we arrived at little before that so I could get my son settled.  Unfortunately, the website information was incorrect and the show had actually already started at 11am.  No matter, as when we paid, my son had his hand stamped and we were told we could come and go all day.  It costs £6.00 for adults and children over 3 years of age (I do think there should be some deduction for children), but at least you can view all 3 shows for that price and there were a couple of talks you could see too.

We watched the end of the first show and made a mental note to return before 1pm for the second show of the day. There are over 70 different birds of prey on display within the Centre, so there is plenty to see.  There is a large seating area with a chargeable BBQ facility and an undercover area with children’s seating and colouring pens.  The downside for families is the only close toilet facility is one portaloo at the entrance.  The toilets in the main centre are excellent, just something to remember really.

We had our picnic and then went back for the second flying display of the day, the Falconer’s were all really interesting and each display consisted of different birds – a great idea.  The birds were beautiful and to see them flying so close to us was extra special.  My son and I really enjoyed ourselves and thought all had gone rather well on the first day of opening. We saw owls, eagles, ravens, vultures, kestrels and peregrine falcons to name but a few during our visit.

We then decided to check out a few new arrivals on the farm …..

We rounded off our day with a visit to the playground and a trip to the chickens.  Another great day at Millets Farm, can thoroughly recommend the Falconry Centre – lots to see 🙂

  1. It looks like the rain held off – although you didn’t let that stop you from enjoying your day out! Watching these flying displays are mesmerising, we have a bird of prey centre near us in Cornwall and one cheeky bird often goes off in the middle of a display but always comes back the next day! Thanks for linking up with Country Kids.

  2. Looks like a great place to go for a day out xx #countrykids

  3. We must try and get to Millets Farm this summer. I keep thinking about it, but never put in a date.

I'd love to hear from you and try to reply to all comments
