Can I have a Monkey story please Mummy?

You know I love books from all the posts I’ve written about them over the months since I started this blog.  So far, my son feels the same way. Long may that last!

Our bedtime ritual involves at least 3 books from his expanding collection.  It’s a lovely time, at the end of the day that we both enjoy.  On Sunday’s Daddy does bedtime and my son does his best to get him interested in his books (total non-reader!!)

Anyway, a few weeks ago I started something that he now absolutely loves.  The last book of the evening is ‘Monkey story’, and I tell him a story of a little boy, who lives with his Mummy and Daddy, his cat Brewster and his bear called Teddy.  I then re-tell that day’s adventures as if we are all characters from a book.  He sits in bed cuddled up with his beloved Teddy and shrieks with excitement as he recognises the days’ activities unfold.

It’s now become a daily ritual, to the point this evening where my son gave me the biggest hug ever and refused to let go until I told him a ‘Monkey story’.  As soon as I had finished the story he settled down in bed for the night.

I’m not quite sure what’s going to happen on Sunday when Daddy has to tell a ‘Monkey story’!

  1. mine love this too, made up stories by me. sometimes get tired of doing it!! when they ask all the time, but then I think it hopefully will be a lovely memory for them when they grow up. my 4 yr old just always insists on the same stories and characters so after a while i wanna do something different! at the moment its always the icecream land, with 2 animals racing, and a boy and a prison lol. we did used to have to have dinosaur land ones every day but moved on from that. think i need to move him onto something else again!! yours sounds a good idea using the days events! i wonder if mine would go for that for a change

  2. If Cameron is having problems getting to sleep, I always make up a story about what we have done that day. Always settles him.

Let us know how Daddy gets on with the monkey story
