Sky Side at Birmingham Airport

Are you flying from Birmingham Airport this summer with the kids?Ā  If so, there is a real treat in store for them, and something to help you relax into your holiday before you’ve even boarded the plane šŸ™‚ Check-in, Buckle Up and Zoom Out with Sky Side at Birmingham Airport!

Meet Zoom …..

Zoom, Sky Side, Over 40 and a Mum to OneBirmingham Airport have just launched Sky Side with Zoom the Sky Cadet.

…. our exclusive free interactive play experience for the whole family.

As regular readers of the blog will know, Monkey’s grandparents live in Spain, and we always fly from Birmingham Airport to visit them.Ā  So I was intrigued to find out more about this new idea to keep the kids amused whilst waiting for flights to leave.

We arrived a little early this morning with our Special S, a very good friend, and decided to get a bit of plan spotting in before learning all about Sky Side at Birmingham Airport.

We then went to meet the team from Birmingham Airport and the Sky Side entertainment team. It has to be said that Monkey aged 3 and half was rather excited about the prospect of seeing more planes.

Each child travelling on holiday from Birmingham Airport from now until the beginning of September (after today, I really wish they’d keep this as a permanent fixture so we can make use of Sky Side in October!! – hint) will be given the chance to become a Sky Cadet with a Sky Pass and will be able to have lots of FREE fun from check-in right through to the departure gates.

Monkey was handed his Sky Pass booklet and then Michelle, the project manager, talked us through the challenges ahead.

We checked in, yes we did need our passports, Monkey was very excited.Ā  We were off on our first mission. Without ruining the surprise for any travellers out there, you need to complete a number of missions from check-in, through security and into the Sky Side departure lounge.Ā  Once you’ve completed the main mission you will be able to complete a password giving you access to your Sky Cadet Wings and the Sky Zone by the Departure Gates where there is loads of FREE fun to be had.

This is a quick snapshot of our time on our way to the Sky Zone ……

We completed our missions, worked out our pass code and Monkey earned his Sky Cadet Wings and access to the Sky Zone …..

There is so much to keep the kids amused in the Sky Zone as you can see – it easily entertained a group of children today from tiny toddlers to over seven-year olds, and I can see older children enjoying the more interactive computer games available on the screens.

Both myself and our Special S were really impressed with the whole idea of Sky Side at Birmingham Airport and the Sky Zone and Monkey had a wonderful day.Ā  He really understood the concept of the missions far more than I thought he would, and he thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

I have to say a special thank you to Kieran from the Sky Side entertainment team who helped Monkey to earn his wings and to Michelle, the overall project manager who spent some time with Monkey at the windows looking down at the planes taxiing in and out of the gates – it made his day to see so many planes too.Ā  The Entertainment team are specially trained and will be happy to help you and your family make the most of your Sky Side experience.

I should also mention that as a special treat on Friday’s a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company visits the Sky Zone to read Wendy & Peter Pan!

Monkey didn’t stop talking about his day at Sky Side Birmingham Airport all the way home – what further recommendation do you need!Ā  There is a Sky Side Facebook page which has loads more information too – so have a look before your holiday so you know what to expect šŸ™‚

disclosure:Ā  we were invited to try the Sky Side experience for review purposes and our travelling costs were covered, however, our comments are our own honest thoughts

About Over 40 and a Mum to One

I'm a Mum in my late 40ā€²s with a 7 year old son. I had a busy life in Export Sales before my Monkey came along, but decided to become a stay at home Mum once he arrived. Now I enjoy writing my own family lifestyle and travel blog. sharing the adventures that we have as Monkey makes his journey through school. We have a cat called Brewster who makes appearances and Iā€™m a mad Ferrari Formula 1 fan, so that expect to hear about as each season unfolds. We love reviewing toys, games and books and would love the opportunity to look at anything that fits in with our family lifestyle. We are always out and about and offering an insight on the places we visit, with a passion for nature thrown in for good measure. If you like what you read please leave me a comment, I love to hear from people, and always try to reply. Enjoy the read.

  1. What a fantastic idea. I have to admit we tend to drive rather than fly as it is usually easier to entertain the children.

    1. It is such a great idea, we only really visit my parents, we did drive when Monkey was 3 months old, but a 24 hour ferry crossing and then 12 hour drive fills me with nothing other than pure dread these days – lol!
