Lighting up our home

I am in the process of bringing our house out of Daddy P’s 80’s comfort zone and into the 21st Century!  I’m in the process of updating all of our lighting as I discussed recently. Bye, bye light shades and hello to something more me!  It’s a long process with Daddy P, but I’ve learned that the dripping tap approach works best, eventually, he always gives in! So I’m on project ‘Lighting up our home’!

The first room to tackle was the Living Room, which also occasionally has to function as a Dining Room when I have friends over.  For some reason, the ceilings in Daddy P’s house downstairs are quite low.  Daddy P is around 6′ 2″, so why on earth he ever went for Chandelier type ceiling lights always escaped me.  He had spent years ducking every time he got off the sofa!  Whilst this was quite amusing to watch, it also needed to be remedied.

I decided that semi-flush fittings would be the best option for the first phase of the lighting up of our home project.

The room is not that large and has two ceiling lights, so I didn’t need a large number of lights per fitting.  Something like this would be ideal.

Daddy P would be able to get off the sofa without knocking himself out on the lighting.  I liked the detail, not fussy, simple and effective.  With three lights per fitting, this is an ideal solution.  The first phase of lighting up our home – check!

Next up for modernising – our bedroom.  The central hanging light shade just had to go.  I wanted to feel that my bedroom was a tranquil haven at the end of the day.  My little domain!  What to choose?

I couldn’t decide between these …..

I like the effect of the first ceiling light but I have cube bedside lights already, so actually, the second option would work really well. I’ve really been spoilt looking at the ceiling lights at John Lewis.  Lots of different ideas for project ‘Lighting up our home’.

So Living Room/Dining Room sorted, Main Bedroom sorted, next up Bathroom, En-suite and Cloakroom….

I decided on the circular flush ceiling fittings for the bathroom and en-suite rooms and the square flush ceiling for the downstairs cloakroom.

Are you looking to change your ceiling lighting?  What would you go for?
