I think most of us are probably aware of the name Andy Warhol even if we are not great Art enthusiasts. I have always loved old movies and knew of Andy Warhol through his images of Marilyn Monroe. I then became aware of another famous piece of Warhol art – the Campbell’s Tomato Soup Cans #SoupArt.
Campbell’s Soup has just launched Andy Warhol inspired limited edition Condensed Tomato Soup Cans ……
I decided to track a can down for myself and wondered if I could cook up some #SoupArt in the kitchen …
I had my tin of Campbell’s Condensed Tomato Soup that I’d bought in town yesterday and thought I’d do a spin on my Chilli Con Carne dish.
I needed 500g mince, a red onion (chopped), a couple of garlic cloves (crushed), celery stick (chopped), mushrooms (chopped), a tin of Campbell’s Condensed Tomato Soup, a tin of Peeled Plum Tomatoes, a tin of Kidney Beans, chilli, cumin, paprika, cayenne pepper and oregano.
Heat some olive oil in a pan, add the chopped onion, crushed garlic and chopped celery and cook for a few minutes until soft. Add the mince and cook through until browned, add a teaspoon of cumin, paprika, oregano and chilli paste along with a half a teaspoon of cayenne pepper. Cook through for 5 minutes. Add the condensed tomato soup, plum tomatoes and kidney beans, stir through and simmer for 30 minutes.
I served it up with steamed brown rice and asked my nearly 4-year-old son AKA ‘Chief Taste Tester’ to give it his seal of approval.
It got the thumbs up – #SoupArt. I actually wouldn’t have thought to use Condensed Soup, but it made a nice change. It thickens the mixture up, whilst still providing a tomato base. We were all impressed and I think I’ll make this a more regular dinner ingredient.
This is our entry into Campbell’s ‘15 MINUTES OF FAME’ competition.
If you fancy a bit of your own Warhol inspired art why not get yourself over to the Warholiser as we did!
I love those cans! I’ve never really thought of using soup in dishes like this but that’s a great idea!
They look good don’t they. I’ve used Mushroom and Chicken condensed soups but first time for tomato
I never think to use condensed soup in things, that looked yummy and I’m glad monkey liked it!
I’ve used Condensed Chicken and Mushroom soups before but never Tomato.
Love the recipe, and most importantly, your son liked it! All the best for the competition.
Thanks, I’m sure they’ll be more creative entries than mine, but something that my son will eat will do me just fine 🙂
That looks lovely, I have used it in mince before with a tin of baked beans as well, but never thought of chilli. Bet it was nice
I bet the soup works well as the base for chilli con carne. I have added a link to your blog post on mine. 🙂 (hope you don’t mind)
It was good, I was impressed
