A moment in time

I love taking photographs, I always have my camera with me and could bore the best of you for hours with my snaps. The downside to my photo taking is that I’m rarely in any of them.  I don’t mind that too much, but I do tend to forget to take ‘family photos’ with me in them!  Today’s Magic Moment and What’s the Story? is a moment in time, a moment with my son and my parents.  A rare shot of the four of us together.

A moment in timeNow of course it would be too much to ask for all of us to be looking at the camera at the same time!  Daddy P did try a few times and this is the best of the bunch.  It’s also the only time I got in any of the photos during our recent trip to Spain.

Mum and Dad have lived in Spain for very nearly 9 years, they used to be a 15 minute drive away.  Family is a funny thing isn’t it?  You moan about them when they’re near and you wish they were nearer when they’re not – well I do anyway.

As Daddy P’s parents are dead, I feel the distance even more.  Not just for me, but for Monkey.  He can’t pop over to his Granny and Gramp’s house whenever he likes.  He has a Skype relationship with them – thank god for that!  I wonder how he would be with them without the computer.  Would they just be strangers? We don’t have the money to be able to pop over to Spain on a whim unfortunately.  In fact we hadn’t seen them since my Dad’s 70th birthday last November.  So this moment in time, a rare moment, is a very special one for all of us.  One we’ll be repeating in March for Granny’s 70th birthday – we are counting down the days 🙂

About Over 40 and a Mum to One

I'm a Mum in my late 40′s with a 7 year old son. I had a busy life in Export Sales before my Monkey came along, but decided to become a stay at home Mum once he arrived. Now I enjoy writing my own family lifestyle and travel blog. sharing the adventures that we have as Monkey makes his journey through school. We have a cat called Brewster who makes appearances and I’m a mad Ferrari Formula 1 fan, so that expect to hear about as each season unfolds. We love reviewing toys, games and books and would love the opportunity to look at anything that fits in with our family lifestyle. We are always out and about and offering an insight on the places we visit, with a passion for nature thrown in for good measure. If you like what you read please leave me a comment, I love to hear from people, and always try to reply. Enjoy the read.

  1. I’m the same, there are very few photos with me in them! This is such a lovely photo, I like ones where not everyone is looking at the camera, it makes it more natural! It’s difficult when you don’t have parents close isn’t it. My husband’s parents are very close to our children and they are going to be moving up to Scotland (in the next week!) and it’s so difficult thinking they will not be close enough to see regularly. Thank goodness for technology hey!

  2. Lovely family photo 🙂 I am also rarely in the photos, so we do make a special effort every so often to get a few with me in them. It’s hard being far from family, makes these moments, and photos, all the more special x #WhatstheStory #MagicMoments

  3. Lovely photo and lovely to have a nice family photo. I know we don’t (even of the 3 of us as the OH hates photos) so if I’m in a photo it’s always a selfie!

We’re totally the other extreme. My mum was 7 miles away, my brother’s 7 miles as well, and my in-laws are less than 100 metres away across the drive (with OH’s sister and brother’s families also within 1.5miles). It’s great for N, but it definitely means you have to have a really good relationship as it definitely wouldn’t be for everyone. I do still have gripes though – main one being after he comes home from nursery I want to spend time with him, but often OH takes him to see Gran & Gramp at the farm. All very well, but means less time for us to spend together which isn’t on really.

Hope you’ve got a countdown going to the next Spanish meet up

  5. Aww this is a lovely photo with a lovely story. My Dad lives up North which I know isn’t as far away as Spain but still not round the corner, and I wish we lived nearer. I lost my mum 5 years ago so I know the importance of spending as much precious time as possible with parents! It’s lovely you’re able to get back out to Spain in the Spring xx
