As you know Monkey is not a great one for parks – he loves the swings, would stay on them ALL day, but slides, climbing frames and the like – no, too scared. Well, that’s not strictly true as we’ve seen over the summer on my posts linking up to Small Steps Amazing Achievements Monkey has been a bit braver, a bit more adventurous. During our recent trip to Spain, we all witnessed Monkey being brave in the Spanish sun. We’d had a lovely lunch and were exploring the campsite at El Penon (more on that in a different post) when we came across a playground.
Monkey wanted to explore – that was a positive. But then he got upset, I’m scared, it’s too high, I’m afraid of heights. Bless him. We persuaded Daddy P to help him overcome his fear. Now Daddy P is over 17 stones, so we weren’t totally sure that the structure would hold his weight! But it did, and he only got a little bit stuck at the bottom of the slide!
Once Monkey overcame his initial fears, he was off! First, it was a case of holding Daddy P’s hand and then he was doing it all by himself. We were all so proud of Monkey being brave in the Spanish sun, of him overcoming his fears, persisting until he felt confident enough to go it alone. Another step nearer to growing up, another step nearer to being 4. My brave little Monkey 🙂
It’s great that Monkey wanted to have a go. My son can lack physical confidence and needs coaxing along to do things especially things with heights. Sounds like you encouraged Monkey along nicely.
He’s getting there slowly but surely
Well done Monkey! I remember when my son was too scared for big climbing frames, once they get the hang of it there is no stopping them!
He’s taking it slowly, but getting there.
Well done Monkey!
Well done Monkey 🙂 my oldest was very similar, cautious! The 4yo, pretty fearless, although quite sensible. The wee girl… Hmm! But, my post this week is also about slides 🙂 #SSAmazingAchievements
Bless him, it’s a long slow process with him.
Well done monkey, we found Skye was the msaw she was petrified of slides until the first time she went down and now you cant stop her
He’s so wary of everything bless him, one slide at a time!
well done to monkey!
Thanks 🙂
What a great step to becoming more independent #SSAmazingAchievements
Aww brave boy. My son’s not keen at all yet and prefers to just stay on the ground. I’d love to see him climbing and swinging.
They are all so different aren’t they. Monkey would prefer to spend all day on the swing, rather than climbing anything really.
It’s great that he wanted to have a go and was able to tell you that he was scared. With a little help he overcome his fear, a fantastic achievement. It looks like he had lots of fun.
Thanks for linking up with Small Steps Amazing Achievements :0)

He’s getting there, slowly, slowly 🙂
