Djeco Space Tap Tap

Djeco Space Tap Tap – a review for Butterflies & Dragons

Djeco Space Tap TapYou may remember we had a spaced themed week here a couple of months ago.  We looked at the Discovery Spaceship, we had a spaced themed reading week and more besides.  So when I was contacted by the lovely team at Butterflies & Dragons to review an item from their range of Djeco products there was one item that really stood out for me.  I just knew that Monkey would love to look at the Djeco Space Tap Tap.

Djeco Space Tap TapThe Djeco Space Tap Tap is aimed at children 4 years and over and encourages the development of hand/eye coordination and fine motor skills.  Monkey will be 4 years old in a few weeks so he’s the perfect age for this toy.  He has a DIY kit, loves space and rockets but has nothing like this at all.

The first thing I noticed about the Djeco Space Tap Tap was the beautiful box.  I’m not sure if it’s wooden or really strong card, but it’s really robust and is going to last for a long time.  The set comes with a thick cork board, 5 double-sided build suggestion cards, a wooden hammer, 40 round-headed tacks and 25 coloured wooden space rocket play pieces.Djeco Space Tap TapThe build suggestion cards are great for getting kids started with this set.  I explained to Monkey that he needed to look at the card and pick out the correct colour parts from the box so he could make his space picture.  So this is great for colour recognition and counting skills too.  We decided that I would be in charge of holding the tacks and he would count them out as he needed them.  The tacks are small and obviously have a pointed end so you would certainly need to keep them away from younger children.

Djeco Space Tap TapEach beautifully detailed wooden play piece has a pre-drilled hole in it which Monkey could then place his tack into and hammer into place on the cork board.  He got the idea straight away.

I thought he might get bored with the set quickly, but as you can see in the photos above, he worked his way through the entire set of cards and then started to adapt them to make his own creations.  Another plus, if it will help inspire his imagination and creativity.

Djeco Space Tap TapIt’s great to find something that keeps Monkey’s sat in one place for more than 5 minutes!  He’s really concentrated with the Djeco Space Tap Tap and has asked for to get it out for him most afternoon’s after Nursery School.  It’s a good, way of getting him to chill out for a little while in the afternoons.  Money has really enjoyed this set and it lovely to watch him play with something a little bit more grown up, he has learnt the hard way to watch where he hammers! His thumb was fine, he won’t do that again.

When your child has finished his rocket and wants to create a new one it’s very easy to lift the play pieces off from the cork board and just start all over again.

Priced at £19.95 with free UK Delivery we give the Djeco Space Tap Tap set a big thumbs up.  Butterflies & Dragons also sell a Vehicles Tap Tap for the same price!
