The Dinosaur That Pooped Christmas

The Dinosaur That Pooped Christmas – 12 Days of Christmas books – Day 1 – AD sent for review

disclosure:  we were sent this book for the purpose of review

You all know that I love books and I’m very lucky that my son does too.  He’s 4 years old in a few weeks time and he loves storytime, whether it’s here with me, at Nursery School, or down at the Library.  Books are part of our lives, I wouldn’t have it any other way.  I feel that this year he really grasps the whole idea of Christmas, although it’s still not as important as his birthday!  I decided to combine our love of reading and Christmas, to bring you a series of posts ’12 Days of Christmas Books’.  I’m starting with The Dinosaur That Pooped Christmas by Tom Fletcher and Dougie Poynter.  The book is published by The Random House Group.

The Dinosaur That Pooped Christmas

As soon as I read out the title to him, he was there, sitting on the sofa – Mummy it’s storytime NOW! The Dinosaur That Pooped Christmas combines two of his favourite things – dinosaurs and poop.  Yes, he’s at that lovely age when everything has a reference to poop.  It’s great, it’s a phase that I’m really enjoying, not!  But, I know he will grow out of it – won’t he??

Now I may be ancient, but even I know who the authors of this book are, and yes, I do quite like McFly (whispers quietly).  He obviously has no idea, he just loves dinosaurs, poop and Christmas.  This book is perfectly aimed at children of a similar age.

The rhyming story kept his attention from the start of The Dinosaur That Pooped Christmas.  It tells the story of a little boy who has everything but still wants more.  The sort of child that needs to be taught a lesson.  Santa couldn’t believe the size of Danny’s Christmas list and decides he needs a special present.  Enter the ‘hero’ of the hour – our little dinosaur friend.

Now, this little dinosaur has a bit of an appetite, well actually, that’s a lie, he has an insatiable appetite. The dinosaur starts to eat his way through Danny’s Christmas – starting with the tree and decorations, he even ate Santa and his sleigh!

As Danny learns a valuable lesson about wanting too much, being too greedy, he sees the dinosaur eating everything in his path, destroying the Christmas that Danny loves.

The Dinosaur That Pooped Christmas is humorously illustrated by Garry Parsons, and my son loved every page of the story.  He couldn’t wait to see what mischief the dinosaur caused next.  As Danny realises the error of his ways, the dinosaur does too.

Of course, every action has a consequence, we’ve all been through nappy changing.  We know that what goes in, must come out!  I’ll leave the rest of the story to your imagination, suffice to say that there is a happy end to this tale.

We’ve been reading the 30 page, mini hardback book edition of The Dinosaur That Pooped Christmas.  It’s just the right size to fit snuggly into someone’s Christmas stocking!

I’m not sure that reading about poop would be my first thought, but I’m not nearly 4, I’m not a little boy, and I’m clearly not in the know.  He loves this book, it makes him giggle, and surely, that’s what Christmas is all about – being happy.
