disclosure: we were sent these books for the purpose of review
Day 3 of the 12 Days of Christmas Books brings us two different books written by John Julius Norwich with illustrations by Quentin Blake. We have two crackers from Atlantic Books for you. Both are for me, rather than Monkey. Both will keep me giggling over the festive period. Both are ideally sized to fit in a Christmas Stocking!
So our two crackers from Atlantic Books are The Twelve Days of Christmas and The Illustrated Christmas Cracker. Both are lovely hardback books.
The Twelve Days of Christmas retells the famous Christmas Carol of the same name. We are treated to the daily thank you letters from Emily to her suitor Edward, for his gifts. As each day passes Emily is getting more bemused by the ever stranger gifts which arrive on her doorstep. The geese, turtle doves and partridge are ruining the garden, and Emily is not happy about all the attention.
The letters are really quite funny, and you can feel Emily’s building hysteria. As always Quentin Blake’s illustrations work brilliantly and I’ve really enjoyed reading this 26-page book.
The second of our two crackers from Atlantic Books is The Illustrated Christmas Cracker. The author John Julius Norwich sends his friends quirky quotes instead of the usual card, each Christmas. Quentin Blake has collected his favourites and provided his own illustrations.
I shall be sharing snippets from this book as I get our Christmas Turkey cooking on Christmas morning. There are lots of interesting quotes in the 64 page The Illustrated Christmas Cracker, some going back a few hundred years, great for keeping the family amused on Christmas Day.
They are lovely aren’t they. We have them too and they really put me in the festive mood!
They’ve certainly made me chuckle
