Viking Ship Mummy

Viking Ship Mummy

Last weekend we went to Hunstanton in Norfolk for the very first time.  In fact, it was our first trip to Norfolk.  Daddy P’s cousin owns a holiday home there and they’ve been asking us to go down with them for years.  Finally, we sorted a weekend date out and off we went.  One thing I wasn’t expecting to hear was Viking Ship Mummy!

I was expecting to be blown away in a gale or soaked to the skin in torrential rain.  I was to be pleasantly surprised.  We arrived Friday afternoon, it was dry, there was no wind – a good start.  We settled into our home for the weekend and spent the evening chatting with our family.

The next morning my son was up bright and early and eager to see the sea.  So we wrapped up warm, put our wellies on and off we went.  It wasn’t far, the house is only 2 roads back from the cliff tops.  My son has only been to the seaside once before when we visited Bournemouth earlier this year.  He was expecting sandcastles and swimming in the sea.  Even Daddy wasn’t quite that brave!

The tide was right out so it gave us the perfect opportunity for some beachcombing.

We were surrounded by Razor Shells – there were millions of them, along with mussels.

He was having a wonderful time exploring.  We were a bit disappointed not to find any sign of life in the little pools of water – another time hopefully.  It was lovely to watch my little explorer having fun on Hunstanton beach.

My son had walked on ahead with cousin R and one of the dogs when he got very excited. Viking Ship Mummy!!  Viking Ship Mummy!

I have no idea where he has learnt about the Viking’s but I was very impressed with his observation.  Clearly, it’s not a Viking Ship, but well-done for recognising this wreck was a ship once.

After all the excitement of our Viking Ship Mummy! discovery we decided we’d earned our lunch, so made our way back up the cliff, past the old lighthouse to home.

    1. Bless him, he was so excited. I can’t decide whether the Viking Ship has come from Mike the Knight (hasn’t watched that for a while) or something at Nursery School. I was really impressed with his imagination.

  1. That looks like such a cool place to visit! And fab that he recognised the ship, that’s pretty impressive! xx

  2. Love the “Viking” ship – isn’t it brilliant when you find out that your kids know about things you haven’t taught them? It never ceases to amaze me how much they pick up for themselves 🙂 #CountryKids

  3. How exciting to find a ‘Viking’ ship 🙂 I love going to the beach on days like that, all wrapped up! #CountryKids

  4. What a great beach to explore, and how exciting to find a shipwreck! I love Monkey’s idea that it’s a Viking Ship – it makes it more exciting. Thanks for linking up and sharing your adventure with Country Kids.

  5. Looks like a great day at the beach and how clever of him to know about Vikings and recognise it as a ship.

I'd love to hear from you and try to reply to all comments
