Memories of Marchena

Memories of Marchena

I know it’s very nearly Christmas and my Country Kids post should be something festive, but we really haven’t done much outdoors this last week or so.  I’ll blame birthdays and catch up with friends!! So I thought I’d take you back to our trip to Spain with memories of Marchena.

We spent a week in Spain in October, visiting my parents in Andalucia. One of our final trips was to Marchena, about and hour and half away from where my parents live.  It’s not a particularly large town; so great to stroll around, amble along narrow streets and get generally lost.

Memories of MarchenaWe’re very lucky that Monkey walks really well, he never really complains when we’re exploring some new place. I’m sure the days of him saying ‘not another building to admire Mummy!’ are ahead of me.  I’m enjoying his admiration of all things Spanish while it lasts.

Memories of Marchena are of Monkey and Granny and the fountains.  Monkey trying to get Granny wet, both of them in fits of laughter.  Monkey and Guru Gramps climbing the stairs of a ruined bit of castle wall.  Having fun, being a family, being out in the fresh air, exploring.

I love architecture so am always in heaven in Spain.  There are churches on every corner, and in Andalucia you often encounter the Moorish influence with arches and Paradors.  Marchena was a lovely place to visit, lots of different things to look at.  Plants and flowers for Monkey to appreciate, tiled pictures to admire. Lots of places to run around.

We all have lovely memories of Marchena, to remind us of sunnier days!
