Big Garden Birdwatch

Big Garden Birdwatch 25-26 January 2014 #birdwatch

Big Garden BirdwatchI’m not a big one for presents for me at Christmas, I’d rather money be spent on children than myself.  But last Christmas I had a very specific request for Father Christmas. PLEASE could I have a new bird table.  You all know that I love wildlife and Monkey and I have been having fun with the RSPB Giving Nature a Home Campaign.  I had a lovely old wooden birdtable that had seen me through a number of years and several gardens.  But last year it fell apart.  I was gutted, and at the time I just couldn’t afford to replace it.  But Father Christmas did well, and I’m all ready for the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch on 25-26th January.

Big Garden Birdwatch, RSPBIt cost’s nothing to register on the link above on the RSPB website, and it’s a great way to spend an hour of your time over the weekend.  It’s a fun activity but also vital to give us all a better indication on bird numbers in the UK at this time of year.  For the very first time you can also record other wildlife that visits your garden.  If you don’t have a garden – spend an hour in your local park!

In case you haven’t taken part in the Big Garden Birdwatch before, once you’ve registered, you spend an hour of one day over the Birdwatch weekend recording which species of birds visit your garden, and now also wildlife in general.  Then record your sightings on the RSPB website or via post.  Simple.

Monkey loved taking part with the Big Garden Birdwatch last year. Each time we spotted a bird in the garden, I showed him the picture in our bird book and we talked about colours and size and what each bird likes to eat.

You can also use #birdwatch to share your sightings across social media sites.  Good luck.

  1. I have one made by me Dad a few years ago. I don’t have a lot of room in my garden but I can’t lose the birds house because it was made for me 🙂

    1. I missed my bird table so much last year, I have feeders but it’s not the same as watching my visitors on the table. Got to wait for them to come back now though, with a more active cat in the household I’m hoping we haven’t scared them all away 🙁

  2. I love bird but not my OH. he didnt want me to have bird house in garden. so i had to feed bird on my street instead.

  3. Lovely new bird house! We very rarely get birds in our garden so would probably be a looonnnngg hour with a little one! We did have a robin that kept coming back for a while though!

    1. Doesn’t need to be in the garden, can be your local park etc, although with the weather as it is ….. I love Robin’s. We normally have a couple of Robin’s visiting during the winter.

I'd love to hear from you and try to reply to all comments
