The Gift of Life

The Gift of Life – a book review

disclosure:  we were sent this book for the purpose of review, our comments remain our own honest opinions

The Gift of LifeI was contacted by Keily J Adey at the end of December last year.  She asked me if I’d like to read and review her book – The Gift of Life.  It’s a very personal account of her sometimes harrowing journey to motherhood.

When the 110-page paperback book arrived, I knew I’d need to be in a good place emotionally before I could read it.  You all know that I had a miscarriage a few years ago, most of the time I’m fine, but I can’t say that it doesn’t still upset me.  But I was lucky, I fell pregnant with Monkey without any outside intervention, I fell very quickly.  As much as I’d have loved to have a brother or sister for him, age was never on my side, neither were the finances to even contemplate IVF.

So when I knew that I’d be able to read The Gift of Life without ending in floods of tears I began.  Keily has written this book as a diary, its frank, but doesn’t go into too many minute details.  The book deals with miscarriage and her subsequent experience of IVF.  It’s interesting to read of her struggles and ultimate joy. I only personally know a few people who have tried IVF, one was lucky, others were not.  I’ve heard that after having IVF babies, people can fall pregnant naturally, this also happens to Keily, but life is never that simple for her, it seems.

There are two bundles of joy in her life, so there is a happy ending to this story.  I’m sure The Gift of Life would provide comfort for others in a similar situation.
