Captain Beastlie's Pirate Party

Captain Beastlie’s Pirate Party – a book review for #WorldBookDay

Captain Beastlie's Pirate PartyThis post was meant to go live on Thursday, in time for #WorldBookDay. My post scheduling had a blip while we were in Spain!  So, a little later than planned here is a wonderfully funny book we have been reading whilst on our holidays in Spain.  I’d love to share with you Captain Beastlie’s Pirate Party written by Lucy Coats, which was published last month.

Captain Beastlie's Pirate PartyIf Monkey was at Nursery School today, this would have been his chosen book to dress up as for #WorldBookDay.  He loves it.

Captain Beastlie's Pirate PartyCaptain Beastlie’s Pirate Party is a wonderful 32 page picture book, aimed at children aged 3 years and over, so perfect for my pirate mad 4 year old Monkey. The illustrations from Chris Mould really help to bring this humorous tale to life.

We count down the days to Captain Beastlie’s birthday, great for anyone learning the days of the week and numbers. He’s a rather messy pirate, can’t help but cover himself in food.  He is not in the least bit dashing.

Captain Beastlie's Pirate PartyWhat will happen on the big day?  Do Captain Beastlie’s crew have a surprise in store?  Oh yes they do!  No, don’t worry, they don’t mutiny, they don’t make Captain Beastlie walk the plank.  They give him a wonderful makeover, but how long can the Captain stay clean for??

With pongy patches and rotten cabbages, Monkey has loved the descriptive language in this story, it really has become a firm favourite.  It get’s a resounding thumbs up here on #WorldBookDay.
