DC Super Friends

DC Super Friends – a review

When we were kids I used to love watching Batman and Robin, it was my first encounter with Super Heroes.  I can remember my brother having black and white comics featuring the likes of The Torch and Spiderman.  Life has moved on and now Bantam Children have launched some great Early Readers with stories from DC Super Friends. There is also a great Sticker Book and Activity Book to keep all budding Super Friends busy.  All of the books are aimed predominately at children from 5-7 years.

Crime Wave! and Hero Havoc! are the DC Super Friends First Readers, aimed at children just starting to learn to read.  The font size is large and there is a lot of repetitive text.  Monkey is only 4 years old, so not reading for himself yet.  But he has just started to point out letters to me, and these books have really caught his imagination.  The cartoon style illustrations have made it easy for him to enjoy the stories.

We’ve read the DC  Super Friends Early Readers together and then Monkey has gone off and enjoyed looking through the books by himself.  He’s been quite taken with the various Super Heroes. Each book is 32 pages long.

The DC Super Friends My Wipe-Clean Activity Book comes complete with a pen with brush attachment.  Great to remove your childs work and start again.  The book is a great way to introduce a child to the DC Super Friends.  You match the Hero to their symbol and vehicle, look out for a baddie on every page, find matching pairs and do dot-to-dot.  There are 16 pages of activities in total.  This sort of activity book would be great to take on holiday, keeping your action hero entertained on a flight.

The DC Super Friends Sticker Book has 4 pages of stickers (over 50 stickers in total) which can be used to identify your favourite heroes.  Create your own Super Friends action as you add stickers to the various scenes.  There are also activity pages, again making this book a great idea for travelling with kids.

All of the books mentioned are priced at £3.99 and I think the represent really good value for money.
