Make Your Own T-Rex – a review for The Works

We were recently given the opportunity to review a book from The Works.  We have a store locally which I’m a big fan of.  You can get some great deals on all sorts of books. This was my first time looking at their on-line catalogue.  I really was spoilt for choice.  I knew I already had a number of books myself to read, so decided to look at something for Monkey.  I spotted the Make Your Own T-Rex book published by DK.

Make Your Own T-Rex

My 4 and half year old Monkey is dinosaur mad at the moment, and I’m sure that this interest is going to be long-lasting.  He loves borrowing proper factual books from the Library, so I thought it would be nice to have something of his own.  But this book is a bit different, it’s not just a book!

There are 30 pages of factual information on the T-Rex – where they lived, what their skeleton looked like, even information on how they raised their babies.

As I said, Make Your Own T-Rex is not just a reference book, it’s also a rather wonderful jigsaw puzzle.  This book is aimed at children aged 7-11 years (something that isn’t mentioned on The Works website – an area for improvement maybe) so I’d already decided that I would make the T-Rex as a surprise for Monkey after a busy day at Nursery School.

At the back of the box book are a number of thick boards with press out pieces to make the T-Rex, all are numbered.  The book itself gives clear instructions.

This Make Your Own T-Rex is very clever, even the boards are used in this set.

The puzzle pieces are well made and the finished result looks great.  Our T-Rex is considerably bigger than I thought but Monkey loves it.  It’s really sturdy and reminds him of our recent Dinosaur hunting trip.

He’s really quite impressive isn’t he!

As a parent, what I really love about the Make Your Own T-Rex book is that you can actually pack it all back up and store the dinosaur in the back of the book, to be made again on another day.  All the pieces fit neatly back in to the bases, and the bases slip back into the back of the box book – lovely, no storage issues, no lost pieces.

Make Your Own T-Rex is available from The Works for £8.99, a £7.00 saving on the RRP.  A real bargain in my opinion.

disclaimer:  we were sent this book in exchange for an honest review

About Over 40 and a Mum to One

I'm a Mum in my late 40′s with a 7 year old son. I had a busy life in Export Sales before my Monkey came along, but decided to become a stay at home Mum once he arrived. Now I enjoy writing my own family lifestyle and travel blog. sharing the adventures that we have as Monkey makes his journey through school. We have a cat called Brewster who makes appearances and I’m a mad Ferrari Formula 1 fan, so that expect to hear about as each season unfolds. We love reviewing toys, games and books and would love the opportunity to look at anything that fits in with our family lifestyle. We are always out and about and offering an insight on the places we visit, with a passion for nature thrown in for good measure. If you like what you read please leave me a comment, I love to hear from people, and always try to reply. Enjoy the read.

  1. We love The Works too – there are always lots of bargains. I’ve seen this book but wasn’t sure how good it would be so it’s nice to read such a great review. I can’t believe how big it is!
