Disney Pixar Cars Off-Road Rally Race – a review for Mattel

Being a bit of a motor racing fan I’m eager to encourage the same enthusiasm in Monkey! So when we received a Disney Pixar Cars play set from Mattel over the holidays it was time for some serious play time.  We received The Radiator Springs 500½ Off-Road Rally Race aimed at children aged 4 years and over.

Disney Pixar Cars Off-Road Rally Race

This play set themed around The Radiator Springs 500½ comes with 21 self assembly pieces, stickers, instruction leaflet and a 1:55 scale die-cast Lightning McQueen car.

Lightning McQueen even comes complete with off-road gear and movable suspension – we notice these little added extra touches.

The Radiator Springs 500½ Off-Road Rally Race is really easy to assemble even with an eager 5 year old ‘assistant’.  Literally a couple of minutes to put together and fix stickers in place and no batteries required.  So your little racers are ready for action pretty quickly.

You can play with this set in two ways. Lightning McQueen can have his own time trial or you can use up to 3 cars at one time and they can take to the mountain climb one after the other for added action.

Use the crank handle to help Lightning McQueen make his hill climb and then watch him go off-road as he goes through a cactus patch, graveyard and a forest! Position car flush against the launcher when starting the hill descent for best race pace. Monkey had no problem sussing this out for himself.

Monkey’s quite enjoyed this set, considering me love racing, we don’t actually have any track sets so this has been something different for him to try out.

It’s well made so will withstand some pretty intense play time, and it can also me connected to other ‘Action Shifter’ sets for added play potential as your racers create their own Radiator Springs.

Priced at £29.99 the Disney Pixar Cars Radiator Springs 500½ Off-Road Rally Race is in line with other play sets we have, and any Cars fan is going to have lots of fun with it.

disclaimer:  we were sent this set in exchange for an honest review

About Over 40 and a Mum to One

I'm a Mum in my late 40′s with a 7 year old son. I had a busy life in Export Sales before my Monkey came along, but decided to become a stay at home Mum once he arrived. Now I enjoy writing my own family lifestyle and travel blog. sharing the adventures that we have as Monkey makes his journey through school. We have a cat called Brewster who makes appearances and I’m a mad Ferrari Formula 1 fan, so that expect to hear about as each season unfolds. We love reviewing toys, games and books and would love the opportunity to look at anything that fits in with our family lifestyle. We are always out and about and offering an insight on the places we visit, with a passion for nature thrown in for good measure. If you like what you read please leave me a comment, I love to hear from people, and always try to reply. Enjoy the read.
