Give readers a reminder with a newsletter

Give readers a reminder with a newsletter is something I need to consider trying for myself.  I do have an email subscription option here but haven’t thought about a newsletter.

Give readers a reminder with a newsletter

Bloggers are often asked a lot of questions by other mums looking to start their own blog. Along with “how do you find topics to write about?” and “how do you find the time to write posts?”, you may find you are asked about ways to keep blog readership up. After all, a great blog with no readers is like a tree falling in a forest with nobody around to hear. The first two questions will have to be answered another time; as for the latter, though, there’s one easy tip: newsletters.

Newsletters are a great way to keep your audience engaged. Adding a subscription widget on your blog is really easy. This can be something as simple as a blog post subscription, in which readers get a notification of each new post. However, the best engagement comes from a special newsletter that you send out regularly.

There are a lot of newsletter sites, such as MailChimp, Constant Contact, and My Emma. Some sites will offer free newsletters while others charge a monthly subscription or per email fee. It is worth playing around with a few to find the one that works best for you.

Another big tip for bloggers is that it pays to verify your subscribers. Using an email verification service, such as BriteVerify, can dramatically drop your bounce rate. High bounce rates, where newsletters aren’t delivered for any of the number of reasons, can cause your newsletter site to penalise you or even block your account. If your newsletter gets flagged as spam by one of the big email providers, such as Gmail, the impact of your newsletter will be almost non-existent. Once you have your email list ready, you want to give your subscribers great content. If you send out a weekly or monthly email newsletter, you could include links to your favourite blog posts. Along with this, add in some great images and a bit of exclusive content. This could be previews of upcoming posts or a special message.

A great newsletter is something your subscribers will love to see in their inbox, and that will get them visiting your blog more often.

Is this something you’ve tried?  I’d love to hear your experiences and thoughts.

  1. Mine’s been in template format for about 7 months now. I have it ready, I just need time to get it finalised, and knowledge, on how to get rss for my posts through it. The only way I’ve managed to do that is with their own template which is ugly and pointless. I think I need to find someone who’s done it and ask how they did theirs.

  2. To be honest, I hate newsletter especially I get them so often. I find that it is a great way to tell your reader but at the same time, it is quite annoying if I keep getting them. So I dislike them. It does engage your reader but not for me. lol

I'd love to hear from you and try to reply to all comments
