Frog Party

Frog Party – a review for Orchard Toys

Do you fancy coming to a party? A Frog Party? What Mummy? We recently received the new addition game from Orchard Toys called a Frog Party and it was time to put Monkeys maths skills to the test!

Frog Party

Frog Party is a board game aimed at children aged 4 years+ which encourages counting skills and can be played with 2-4 players. The game consists of 1 Frog Party square, 4 connecting play boards, 4 frog play pieces with stands, 10 lily pads, a double spinner board with number line and play instructions.

Frog Party

Fit your playing boards to the main Frog Party square and place the frogs on the relevant starting points. The aim of the game is to be the first player to reach the party. There are two ways to play the game – you can either use the lily pads as counting pieces or use the number line.

Frog Party

Monkey started the game and not to be left out Brewster decided to spectate. He enjoys playing both versions of the game.

Frog Party

With the lily pad options, you spin both of the spinners, the player selects the number of lily pads shown on the first spinner and then picks up the number of lily pads shown on the second spinner.

Frog Party

Then the player counts the total number of lily pads they have collected to find the answer to the sum. They can then move their frog along their lily pad playing boards the corresponding number of spaces.

Frog Party

Play moves on to the next player and continues until someone reaches the Frog Party.

Frog Party

Monkey uses a number line at school, or so I believe! God forbid he should actually tell me what he does. But anyway, I’m sure he does use one for addition and subtraction so we’ve tried this play option too. In this version of the game, spin both spinners and use your fingers to count along the number line to add both numbers and find the answer to the sum.

Frog Party

Monkey engaged with a Frog Party really quickly, he got the idea of the game quickly and loves trying to beat me to get to the party. It’s been a hit here and Monkey has also used the spinners to work on his subtraction skills too.

Frog Party

You all know I’m a big fan of Orchard a Toys, the quality of the playing pieces is great, the graphics are bright and engaging. Frog Party is a great game to help with counting up to 10, helps younger children with number recognition and helps children with turn taking. Of course, we do have the issue with Monkey not being so happy if anyone dares to beat him to the frog Party, but that’s another lesson that he needs to learn.

Priced at £9.50 this is a lovely game, and I’d thoroughly recommend as a first addition game for any youngster.
