Gtech AirRam K9 – Spring cleaning made easy

It takes a lot to impress Daddy P, but even he admits that the Gtech AirRam K9 is a wonderful addition to our household.

Gtech AirRam K9

Spring cleaning is now made so much easier and we are both loving the freedom that cordless is bringing us with the Gtech AirRam K9.  Even better that this vacuum cleaner is specifically designed with pet owners in mind.

The new Gtech AirRam K9 vacuum cleaner offers a different approach to the problem of pet hair so that UK pet owners can enjoy the same high performance, lightweight and cordless freedom which has made its predecessor, Gtech AirRam the UK’s best-selling cordless vacuum cleaner.

It can withstand the stresses that pet hair can put on a standard vacuum cleaner and is made to last.  As you all know, our Brewster, is a rather fluffy long-haired black and white cat.  Not an ideal match with a beige carpet, add in all the debris he brings in from the garden on his fur, and our carpet was definitely shouting out for a bit of TLC.

The Gtech AirRam K9 is easy to assemble and needs charging for up to 4 hours to work at its full capacity. (Although we have found that the 4 green LED bars have been lighting up in less time – even on a first charge).

Our house is a nightmare when it comes to free electric sockets, whoever designed this house clearly had no idea about where sockets should be placed and how many electrical appliances people use these days.  A cordless vacuum cleaner is an absolute godsend for us, but I do wish the battery charger cable was longer.  The only ‘free and easy to reach’ sockets we have are in the kitchen, not at floor level.  That wasn’t an option with this charger cable.  So I ended up using the extension lead in the bedroom.  Just a minor niggle.  It’s since been pointed out that I could actually remove the battery and charge it on the worktop – oh, my advancing years do get the better of me sometimes!  So obvious, doh!

Now, it is extremely hard to impress Daddy P, he doesn’t do the whole ‘wow that’s excellent’ thing with anything.  But, being a man who loves cleaning, I was eager to see what he thought to our new cleaner.  He wasn’t convinced that a cordless vaccuum would be any good, compared to his old, but faithful cleaner.  Oh, how I wanted to prove him wrong, firstly, because the Gtech AirRam K9 is so light at 3.8kgs and easy for me to manoeuvre.  Unlike our existing cleaner!

So it was over to Daddy P ….

He agreed that it was really easy to manoeuvre (the arm can be tilted as you clean) around the house, worked well on both carpet and lino flooring without any need to change setting, and he was amazed by what it picked up.  He cleans the house really regularly, and it did perhaps show that his beloved cyclone type cleaner was probably past its best.

He did comment on the smell. The Gtech AirRam K9 is supplied with lavender-scented refills, which last for one month.  It’s a nice idea, and most welcome too I would imagine, if you have a dog.

There is enough charge to clean two average sized houses and we’d agree with that.  It’s really easy to empty and the main filters just need washing out once a month.

In his own words – I never thought I’d be impressed with a cordless vaccuum, but I really like this.  Just needs an attachment for the stairs.  I have to agree with him, at £249.00, for a vaccuum cleaner aimed at pet owners we both think this is a real shame.  Believe me, having had cats and dogs since I was a child, stairs are a magnet for fur.

But, it’s so easy to use, I’m finding I’m more inclined to vaccuum up after Brewster every day (but don’t tell Daddy P – I’d hate to take the job away from him).

  1. Is this the one that’s been advertising recently – I think I saw it at the weekend. Saying it would clean for 40 minutes on one charge (that wouldn’t do our whole house twice – or anywhere near and we’ve only got a 3 bed – although it is a large house). Did look good though, shame about the lack of attachment – although I’m slack with our dyson and just use the normal one with the stairs unless it’s really looking dusty or mucky in the corners.

  2. I have seen this advertised and liked the idea but, like you, was dubious whether a cordless vacuum would be powerful enough, especially with a dog in the house. It is great to read that it really worked well!

  3. One of the things that got me completely off-guard in using this particular vacuum cleaner wasn’t just the light-weight characteristics of the vacuum cleaner, the cordless features making it easier to go around and not worry about being entangled or snagged short by wires, the super efficient cleaning system and easy-to-clean filters, not to mention the easy storage or the fact that it’s low on electricity usage. It’s the fact that you can actually have scents spread out the area while you clean. Lavender, mint, apple, cinnamon, your pick of scent goes and oh my God it was a good assault to the senses, it makes you just want to keep cleaning the house all day. Or maybe it’s just me. Whoever came up with that neat idea of adding the scent feature was shrewd and ingenious. Kudos to the company behind this innovation, and truly it is a wonderful addition to the household indeed.
