The B&W Photography Project Week 49

The B&W Photography Project Week 49

The B&W Photography Project Week 49 with PODCast and I’m introducing you to one of my favourite kind of insects.  I’ve loved dragonflies for as long as I can remember, I probably love them more than butterflies.  The love affair began as a child, watching my Dad with his net, so expertly catching them.  It’s all in the flick of the wrist don’t you know!

I’ll never have his skill at catching our insect friends, but I’m still fairly good at spotting them.  We were over in Spain last week, spending time with my parents.  One of our favourite activities is to go for a walk in the countryside, which is literally at their back door.  Near the end of our walk I spotted this handsome beast, the only dragonfly we saw on our trip.  I’m reliably informed by Guru Gramps that he’s a Onychogomphus forcipatus, English name is Small Pincertail.

In reality he’s black and yellow, but I love the details that come alive in this black and white shot. The hairs on his legs, the details on the wings.  What’s not to love?

  1. That’s an incredible shot and works so well in B&W. I am fascinated by his wings and how the monochrome really shows you how it’s made up. You can’t take your eye off this photo; really incredible detail
    Great shot!
