Virry – app review

We love wildlife here as you know and one day I want to take Monkey on Safari in Africa. Until that time, we have our trips to the Zoo to keep us entertained and books to inform. I recently discovered an app which will really help Monkey learn more about the animal kingdom and I want to share it with you today.  Virry is a great app, primarily aimed at children aged 2-7 years, with lots of real life footage to keep children engaged.

The Virry app is free to download for iPad user, but it does include in-app purchases:

  1. Meerkats pack £2.29
  2. Rhino pack£4.49
  3. Giraffe pack£4.49

Monkey’s been having lots of fun learning about the various animals, and especially about Bubar the Rhino, probably his favourite animal.

For each animal you can either play with it, and learn or watch the animal with real life streamed footage.  We’ve spent lots of time learning about the animals with the ‘play’ feature.  There are questions to answer and activities to take part in as you follow your chosen animal.

Children can skip activities if they chose to too, whilst each completed task/question earns the player animal points.  Monkey has loved the video footage and the app works really well as a great source of information.

Virry is aimed at developing core cognitive and learning skills

Your child can set up their own Animal Friends Club page which tracks their level of knowledge and animal points gained.  There’s also a diary option which I think will become useful as Monkey gets a bit older too.

The Live Camera is a great idea and gives children a real birdseye view of each animal as they live within their enclosures.  This does mean that the animals aren’t always in shot – so you do really feel like you are at the zoo at times, waiting for them to appear!

We’ve also loved the other videos available to watch, I’ve seen dolphins swimming off the coast of Gambia, and it’s been lovely to share my memories with Monkey as we’ve watched the video of them.  Also lots of educational content, so I’m happy for Monkey to have screen time with the Virry app.

I’m really impressed with the Virry app and know it will be a point of reference for Monkey over the coming years.

disclaimer:  we were given free access to the in-app purchases in exchange for an honest review
