Hilton Leicester Hotel #StayPlayExplore

disclosure:  we received one night’s stay with breakfast for free as part of the Stay Play Explore promotion package we reviewed separately.
We were under no obligation to review the hotel itself, but have still offered our honest opinion

As part of our recent #Stay Play Explore package Monkey and I got to stay at the 4 star Hilton Leicester Hotel.

Hilton Leicester Hotel

The Hilton Leicester Hotel is close to the M69 and junction 21 of the M1. It took me about 30 minutes to reach the hotel from Twycross Zoo on a late afternoon a few weeks ago.

You need to take a parking ticket at the barrier to access the secure car park.  Guests normally pay £5 per night for parking, but this cost is included in the Stay Play Explore Package, as is breakfast.  The car park has ample spaces to cope with the number of guests.

Check-in is from 3pm, which meant we could have a full day out at the Zoo before arriving, knowing our room would be ready for us.

The Reception/Lobby area was spotless, light and welcoming.

The Receptionist we dealt with was very helpful and presented Monkey with his Pirate Activity Bag which was much appreciated.

We were advised that the Dining Room started to serve evening meals from 6.30pm and that we could book a table in advance.  We’d had a busy day out, and not knowing the area I’d already decided that a meal at the hotel would be a good option for us.  An even better idea, when I discovered that children eat free when accompanying a paying adult.  They also get one free drink. So with no need to worry about finding somewhere to eat we headed to our room.

We were staying in a Family Standard room on the first floor towards the back of the hotel. My son was thrilled to find we had two queen beds in the room, and plenty of space for him to have fun with his Pirate Activity Set.  The room was bright and airy and again, spotlessly clean.

There were tea and coffee-making facilities and glasses for water, an iron/ironing board and hairdryer all within the room if needed, along with a safe.  Monkey enjoyed relaxing watching CBeebies on the wall mounted TV and there was an alarm clock by the beds for convenience.  Plenty of hanging and drawer space is available and a family of four would have adequate room for a few days away in my opinion.

I’m always anxious about the bathrooms when we stay away from home.  Having suffered with a water phobia for years, a fixed shower head still fills me with fear.  But nothing for me to worry about, and actually an adjustable shower head is so much more child friendly in my view.

As you would expect from a 4 star hotel the Hilton Leicester Hotel also supplies miniature toiletries which can be a godsend, especially if you are travelling with work – I remember those days!  There were plenty of towels on hand as well as a mat to step out onto after a shower etc.

Monkey was eager to share his thoughts on our room as you can see in this little video showing you around!

The Dining Room is just across the lobby from the Reception Desk and we were given a choice of tables.  I was surprised to see a number of other family parties, the Hilton Leicester Hotel really isn’t just for business people.  We were really made to feel welcome, Monkey received a second Pirate Activity pack, and I noticed some little girls on a nearby table received the Princess option.

My son decided on the Chicken Bites for his meal and I went for a wonderful Jamaican Goat Curry – it was delicious.

The dessert menu looked lovely, but we were both tired after a long day, so gave those a miss.

So were the beds as comfy as they looked?  Oh yes!  We both slept really well, there was no outside noise to disturb us either.  We really did have the classic good nights sleep, and were ready for another day exploring the National Space Centre.  But before that, breakfast was to be taken.

Fruit juices, milk, tea and coffee were all plentiful along with a number of cereal options. My son loves continental style breakfasts so he was more than happy with a selection of breads, hams and cheeses to start his day. I rarely have a fried breakfast, so this was a real treat, all available buffet style, and very tasty.  Toast, pastries, yoghurts and fruits were all options if you wished.

We were both impressed with the Hilton Leicester Hotel and the facilities.  We would have made use of the swimming pool had my son not had a perforated eardrum at the time of our visit!  The hotel is perfectly placed for anyone wanting to explore Leicester and the surrounding area.  It took us about 20 minutes to reach the National Space Centre just before 10 am on a weekday morning.
