Aquabeads Beginners Studio

Aquabeads Beginners Studio

Monkey, like most boys, can be a bit of a whirlwind, always on the go, never stopping still. But craft sessions are one of those rare moments when he will stop, sit down and concentrate.  We were recently sent the new Aquabeads Beginners Studio and Monkey’s attention was grabbed instantly.  He can see through the ‘girly pink’ packaging and enjoys creating his own little masterpieces.

In fact, we both got rather excited by the Aquabeads Beginners Studio, but for different reasons. As a parent, my gripe with the 2 sets we’ve previously reviewed has been with the lack of after play storage for the beads.  I no longer have to worry.  This set comes with a bead storage case (and space underneath for accessories and templates and a lid (oh yes!) that doubles up as a template tray.

The set also comes with 4 templates sheets which clip in under the template tray, 14 bags of assorted beads – both jewel and solid formed colours, a bead pen (although we both find it easier to use fingers), a water sprayer and instruction leaflet.

The bead tray sits on top of the storage case, you insert a template into the template tray and you are ready to go.

I love the fact that the first thing Monkey wanted to tackle was the flowers.  They are for you Mummy.

One of the great things about Aquabeads sets is the items don’t take that long to create, making them a perfect activity for a boy who is always on the go.  He can sit quietly and concentrate for a few minutes before dashing off again on another adventure.

Once you’ve completed your design, it’s time to ‘set’ the beads by spraying them with water.

This is our only niggle with this set, with the design of sprayer that comes with the Aquabeads Beginners Studio, you press the sides of the bottle and water ‘sprays’ out. Neither Monkey or I were impressed with this sprayer really, and it wasn’t long before we used a sprayer from a previous set.

Once you’ve sprayed your creation with water, you leave it for one hour to ensure the beads are fully bonded.  We’ve found from experience, that for last creations, it’s best to turn over and spray the back, and leave for a further hour.  Then they really do last.

Another thing we both like about this product is that children can use their own ideas, they don’t need to follow the templates, and of course they can change the colours too. Part of the template tray includes a circle and heart design – Daddy P gets the heart and apparently I need to make the circle (he knows me well with those colours) into a necklace!

When play time has finished, it’s so easy to pack the set away, and in fact we fitted templates etc from our two other sets in the storage box too – happy Mummy. Once you’ve used your beads you can still create new items using the Aquabeads refill sets.

Priced at £13.99 I think this is a great set, and the storage case is just what we’ve wanted.   Thinking of something for a Christmas present then look no further.  I’ve included my Amazon affiliate link below for your reference too.

disclaimer:  we were sent this item in exchange for an honest review

  2. This looks a lot of fun. I look forward to my daughter being old enough for things like this – mainly because I want to join in! x
