Man Gave Names to All the Animals

Man Gave Names to All the Animals

As you all know we love animals here, and as we’ve recently visited both Twycross and Whipsnade Zoo’s I thought the newly published Man Gave Names to All the Animals would be a lovely book to share with Monkey.

Man Gave Names to All the Animals

Man Gave Names to All the Animals is a rather unusual picture book published through Sterling Books.  It features the lyrics from the Bob Dylan song, accompanied by some really beautiful illustrations by Jim Arnosky.

I wasn’t aware of the song Man Gave Names to All the Animals before we received this book, so it was a new experience for both Monkey and I as we turned the first page. Through the book we get to meet 170 different animals and see how man might have given some of them their names.

I have to say that this book has been an instant hit with both of us, the song lyrics themselves provide a lovely repetitive lilt and the drawings really are quite wonderful.  It’s the perfect book to study after a visit to a zoo or wildlife park.  We’ve sat and studied each page and Monkey’s identified the animals he knows and has seen. There’s a list of all the animals featured at the back of the book too.

This is the kind of book that promotes discussion and added learning, as we’ve investigated the animals Monkey doesn’t know – the Whooping Crane is a favourite, I’m not sure why, by he has wanted to learn all about this beautiful bird.  I was actually really impressed by the amount of animals Monkey could identify.  It just proves that he really does listen when we go out on our adventures.

Priced at £5.99 we really do love this book and can thoroughly recommend for any nature lovers out there.  I’ve included my Amazon affiliate link for your reference.
