Monkey’s ears pricked up as soon as I read out the title of the latest release from Maverick Arts Publishing. Professor McQuark and the Oojamaflip is the first childrens picture book written by Lou Treleaven, and it’s published on Thursday 28th January. It’s been a great hit here – Oojamaflip is a word Monkey hears me using all the time!
We meet young Professor McQuark who is a rather prolific inventor. She has this wonderful new invention, the Oojamaflip, and she wants to show it off at the Town’s Science Fair. The story is told in rhyming text with wonderfully descriptive illustrations by Julia Patton.
When she arrives with her invention, it’s just too big to fit inside the hall, it’s larger than every other invention there. She looks around, but nothing seems to compare to her Oojamaflip. But can she win the first prize? Monkey loved the idea of having doughnuts on ropes that could be eaten whilst travelling around in this magical machine.
I won’t ruin the ending but it’s a lovely, funny read and Monkey’s top picture book pick this week. I’ve included my Amazon Affiliate link below where you can pre-order Professor McQuark and the Oojamaflip for £6.99.

Lovely review – thank you Mary! And good to hear you are a frequent user of the word Oojamaflip – we mustn’t let it die out!
Exactly!
It look like a lovely book to read with kids.
