Snoopy and Charlie Brown: The Peanuts Movie DVD

Snoopy and Charlie Brown: The Peanuts Movie DVD #SnoopyDVD

When you reach a certain age, all the things you loved as a child seem to make a comeback. It’s lovely when this happens and you get to relive your youth and enjoy the experience with your own child.  We’ve had another one of those moments this week as Monkey and I watched Snoopy and Charlie Brown: The Peanuts Movie DVD.

Snoopy and Charlie Brown: The Peanuts Movie DVD

Snoopy and Charlie Brown: The Peanuts Movie DVD is released on 30th May (Blu-Ray too) and I’ve loved introducing Monkey to all the characters I loved as a child.  The animation is bright and obviously has that 21st century polish to it, but the essence of the film is exactly as I remember the series to be.

I introduced Monkey to Charlie Brown, the boy who can never get anything right, his faithful Beagle Snoopy (my favourite) who dreams of being a great writer and fighter pilot, chasing the Red Baron across the skies.

Then there’s Woodstock, the little bird, a character who’s often forgotten, Lucy, who’s as bossy as ever, Sally (Charlie’s little sister), Linus (Charlie’s best friend and Lucy’s little brother) who goes nowhere without his security blanket.  Peppermint Patty is the tomboy of the group.

This isn’t a fast action, hilariously funny film, its gentle and there are no scary moments. It’s the perfect kind of film for Monkey, who scares really easily.  He liked the characters and found Charlie Brown really funny.  Poor Charlie, after all these years he still can’t fly a kite, is still a dreamer and so incredibly shy when it comes to girls!

There’s a new girl at school – Red Hair, and Charlie Brown is in love.  How can he make her notice him? There are lots of calamities along the way as Charlie tries to get himself noticed.  He signs up for the school talent show, but when his little sister’s act goes wrong, he jumps in to save the day.  He thinks he’s failed to get Red Hair’s attention, but the fact that he cared so much about helping Sally, hasn’t gone unnoticed.

Can Charlie Brown stand out from the crowd with his dance moves at the school dance? Snoopy has given him lessons, and all seems to be going well until disaster strikes, it’s Charlie Brown after all, and he sets the sprinklers off!  It’s a bit of a soggy finale.  Poor Charlie Brown.

Can true love win? Will Red Hair see that Charlie Brown is a caring, determined little fellow?

Throughout the film, we have Snoopy and his own little story running alongside.  Can he fight off the dastardly Red Baron, finish his latest novel set in Word War One and win the heart of fair Fifi?

I’m not going to spoil the ending for you, but we’ve both enjoyed watching Snoopy and Charlie Brown: The Peanuts Movie DVD.  It’s good, old-fashioned fun.  If you’re a household that likes ‘full of action’ movies, then this may not be for you.  But we loved it, my 6 year old could certainly relate to the characters and the their antics.  It gets a thumbs up here if you’re looking for some half term movie entertainment.

As well as the film itself there are a range of extra features included in the DVD.  You can learn how to draw Snoopy, Charlie Brown and Woodstock.  Monkey is a secret dancer, never one to join in at the school disco, but he loves dancing at home.  The ‘Better When I’m Dancin’ song is really catchy and we both had a little dance to the video.

Priced at £9.99, Snoopy and Charlie Brown: The Peanuts Movie DVD is a charming film. I’ve included my Amazon affiliate link for you below so you can pre-order if you wish.
