Family time at Pizza Express

Family time at Pizza Express #PizzaExpressIceAge

It’s no big secret that Monkey loves Pizza and we often enjoy family time at Pizza Express. From birthdays, to time catching up with friends, it’s consistently been a favourite. I’ve been taking Monkey to our local restaurant since he was tiny.  Even before he could actually join in with the freshly made food, he was always made to feel welcome, and I could relax.  How key is that for any Mum?

Monkey loves pizza and Pizza Express is always his first choice when we’re eating out. That’s fine with me, as I think the food is lovely, the service is invariably quick and I’ve always found the chain to be very family friendly. It’s somewhere we can rely on time and again, whether at home or away. We popped along earlier this week to our local branch to check out the new additions to the Pizza Express menu and the new Ice Age activity sheet for children to enjoy.

We all love the Ice Age series of films so I knew Monkey would get stuck into the Ice Age themed activity sheet whilst Daddy P and I decided what to eat.

He loves the Piccolo menu and without even looking, ordered the Baked Dough Balls with garlic butter, peppers cucumber and cherry tomatoes for his starter. My son isn’t called Monkey for no reason, the cheeky thing decided to add some of our starter to his plate too! Monkey prefers his pizza plain, so the Margherita Pizza main is perfect for him. I did think he might try the new Pip Organic Fruity Ice Lolly for his dessert, but the lure of the Piccolo Sundae was just too great. The meal deal works out at £6.95 for the three courses and includes a Bambinoccino to finish off the meal.  It’s a winner for us.

Daddy P and I were eager to try out the new Classic Italian Antipasto starter so we ordered a sharing portion. We weren’t disappointed. It includes various Italian meats , olives, marinated aubergine, roasted tomatoes, buffalo mozzarella, sweet Peppadew peppers and dough baked with Gran Milano cheese, accompanied by garlic butter and pestorissa, a harissa and tomato dip.  Devine!

There are a number of new items on the menu at Pizza Express including some Salads, Risotto Fresco and even new Hawaiian pizza. We’d noted some new side dishes too, and opted for the Coleslaw ‘PizzaExpress’ which includes white cabbage, carrot and onion with a chipotle spice in a rich and creamy dressing.  We both really liked the little kick of the chipotle spice seasoning.

For his main meal Daddy P chose the Sloppy Guiseppe on a classic base while I went for the Melanzane on a Romano base. Both were delicious, and with the Coleslaw, we were both treated to a tasty meal.

For dessert Daddy P enjoyed the Vanilla Cheesecake.  I very nearly went for the new Passionfruit Mess which sounded wonderful, but I really didn’t have the room.  So instead I went the Dolcetti option of a small pudding with a hot drink. In this instance the Salted Caramel Profiteroles with a Cappuccino. Daddy P enjoyed the cheesecake.

We always feel so relaxed in Pizza Express, it’s a firm family favourite and the Ice Age theme adds to the fun. A thumbs up from Monkey says it all.

  1. I’ve only ever taken my daughter once to pizza express & she loved so we’re heading back for her 2nd birthday on Sunday. Hopefully she’ll be old enough to wnjoy the ice age sheet whilst we order 🙂 X

  2. Your photography makes me want to head over there right now but I have a tummy of peanut butter on toast. Inset day so just had breakfast and an early night so I feel human.
We’re big fans of Ice Age too.
I love the additions to the menu you mentioned. That adult starter looks amazing as does the coleslaw xx

I'd love to hear from you and try to reply to all comments
