Project 366 2016 Week 37

Project 366 2016 Week 37 Day 255-261.  It’s been an up and down sort of week here.  The reality of being back at school.

Sunday 11th September – Day 255

Project 366 2016 Week 37

We’d been invited to The Perch on the outskirts of Oxford city centre for lunch, and afterwards explored Port Meadow and the walk along the Thames.  It was such a discovery and somewhere we will be back to explore again.  Of course, any adventure still includes a stick or two.

Monday 12th September – Day 256

Project 366 2016 Week 37

After walking Monkey to school I headed into Oxford with 2 of my NCT friends.  A day of retail therapy, lunch and a general catch up was much in order and did us all good I think. My ancient and trusty old sandals really are seeing their last summer, and I’d been on the look out for a replacement for a month or so.  We found these Birkenstocks in the Covered Market, my colour, the right size and they were reduced.  They had my name all over them.

Monkey headed back to Beavers after an 11 week break, plenty of cuddles and reassurance required.

Tuesday 13th September – Day 257

Project 366 2016 Week 37

I’d spent last night sorting out the living room so it looked less like a toy store ahead of some installation work that was meant to start at 9am.  Monkey wasn’t happy to have all of his toys cleared away, add in an 8.15am cancellation call and Brewster throwing up all over the carpet, and it really wasn’t the best start to the day!

But the sun came out to play, 35 degrees in our back garden, Monkey had his school photo taken and after school we spent some time colouring together.  We’d been sent an eat sleep doodle World Map Pillowcase to review.  It comes with wash out fabric pens, so we can amend our design as we feel fit.

Wednesday 14th September – Day 258

Project 366 2016 Week 37

Brewster was due for his boosters today so off to the Vets we went.  Looks like he’s been a bit of a piggy, so we’ve got to reduce his food a little.  Otherwise a clean bill of health and he was soon out of his basket, running around the garden again.

I’m back to helping in class this year.  This year I’ll be working with a small group of Year 2/3 that are rather shy (can you guess who one of them might be?) helping them build up their confidence and self belief.  A bit daunting, but we played a few games and it was lovely to see them all just relaxing and actually all taking part and expressing their opinions. A good start and they all enjoyed it.  Afterwards I was listening to different children reading.

After school Monkey really just wanted to zone out in front of the TV.  The tiredness is creeping in, so it was a chilled out time.

Thursday 15th September – Day 259

Project 366 2016 Week 37

What a day.  It was Roald Dahl Day at school.  Monkey didn’t want to dress up or take in his golden ticket.  In fact he just didn’t want to go to school full stop.  It seemed that the whole idea of the day being different from the norm was more upsetting for him than anything else.  Throw in a really bad hormone day for me and it was just horrible.  He was so upset and had to be peeled off me at the classroom door and I cried all the way home. Uurrgh. Thankfully I was taking my youngest niece shopping for her 18th birthday present.  She’s always a ray of sunshine.  She picked a lovely watch and I got some new jeans.

Monkey looked rather forlorn when he came out of school and even a shop bought ice cream didn’t cheer him up.  The afternoon went downhill from there, with lots of tears bless him.  By 9pm I’d given up trying to get him to sleep in his room and suggested my room as a treat.  It worked, but when I came to bed he’d taken up the whole of it – its kingsize!

Friday 16th September – Day 260

Project 366 2016 Week 37

Our day started around 3am when Monkey fell out of my bed.  Thankfully he didn’t hurt himself but was then restless until my alarm went off.  Caffeine will be the only thing to get me through the day.  Monkey himself seemed happier than yesterday and was busy doing a jigsaw before breakfast.  He went into school ok, so hopefully he won’t be too tired in class.

A much happier Monkey came home from school and carried on with his jigsaws.  An early night required all round.

Saturday 17th September – Day 261

Project 366 2016 Week 37

After a rather up and down week I was determined that this morning would be relaxing and quiet.  Monkey had to make a family tree for a school wide project that’s due in next week.  Asking him to write anything was always going to end in disaster so I suggested he try something different.  He was in charge of picking Ivy leaves from our garden and I used our flower press to press them a little for him.  Back to Monkey for gluing and sticking, and trunk colouring.  Now we just need to print out some photos and get him to stick them on his tree.  Then at least he’s joined in with the homework!

I’m off out for the evening.  My friend L turns 40 in a couple of weeks and a group of us are going to kick the celebrations off with a night at Blenheim Palace with an outside cinema showing of Dirty Dancing.  The weather has been a bit hit and miss all day so not sure if we’re going to escape a soaking or not!

  1. does not sound like the best week, hope by helping in the class room it helps Monkey and his class mates.
Maybe clearing the toys out was not such a bad move, but shame the instillation work did not go ahead.
We had a few hot days furing the week, but not quite that warm.

  2. sorry to hear your son isn’t enjoying the changes in school. hope you’re both enjoying your extra time together while you’re helping out in school. Love the idea of the family tree with photo’s on it.

  3. Children are so tired at school already and pressured – gets me a bit sad. Hope things pick up again soon. Love the birkies – such comfy shoes! Hope the 40th wasn’t too soogy x

  4. Hope Dirty Dancing was good. I’d love to go to outdoor cinema, but just didn’t get organised for that one.

Hopefully things at school calm down with nothing surprising/different cropping up to confuse.

I'd love to hear from you and try to reply to all comments
