Last Sunday we got to see a piece of history as we joined a free tour of Banbury North Signal Box, before it’s demolished. I’ve spent years seeing this signal box when I’ve travelled to and from Birmingham, and if I’m honest I’ve taken it totally for granted. But we live in a world where computers rule and these signal boxes are obsolete, things of a bygone era. Signalling change and Monkey was very privileged to get to try out the levers for the various points and signals. Don’t worry, the box has already been de-commissioned! No train passengers were put at risk.
The very last tours are being held today.
What a lovely chance to see this before it goes.
What a fantastic opportunity to have a look round before it goes for good.
I used to love visiting our local signal box when I was younger but it’s long since been taken down
Thank you for linking up
Such a shame they are demolishing it but so pleased you got one last look around. They really had to know what they were doing in those days, didn’t they? #MySundayPhoto
It’s amazing what we take for granted. A shame it won’t be around any more
I use to do drawings of trains and signal boxes! We are updating so many cellphone mast and they are usually located near signal boxes and this is an amazing thing to witness. Bittersweet! #mysundayphoto
It is indeed
Wonderful that you got to see it before it closed, and I love this photo x
Awww love the photo and you’re so lucky to get the opportunity to have a one last look before it goes. x #MySundayPhoto
I bet Monkey had fun getting to play with the levers – so interesting to be able to visit before it is demolished 🙂
He loved every minute
