Getting crafty with My Gecko Box

Getting crafty with My Gecko Box – review and giveaway

Monkey has struggled a little since he started in Year Two.  For the last month he’s come home and been a little like a bear with a sore head.  It’s been hard to get him motivated to try the fun activities we’ve done in the past.  But he seems to be settling into the routine again now and we’ve been getting crafty with My Gecko Box and their subscription arts and craft box.

Getting crafty with My Gecko Box

You can pay for your subscription boxes monthly (€21.95) or in 3 month block (€59.85) and the boxes are aimed at children aged between 3-8 years of age.  We received a Rainforest subscription box with a number of different craft activities to complete, a personalised letter and an educational fact sheet.

Getting crafty with My Gecko Box

Getting crafty with My Gecko Box means you use everything that comes in the kit, including the box itself.  What a great idea.  The only thing you will need to supply yourself is a pair of scissors.

Each activity is individually packed and comes with a clear instruction leaflet, showing likely level of adult help required and how messy the kit might be to completed.

Monkey loves his mini beasts so I knew the various Pom Pom creatures would go down well.

The instructions are easy to follow and the animals are easy to make mess free.  We did both struggle to get the eyes to stay on the snakes as the beads are curved, but Monkey didn’t seem bothered that his snakes were one-eyed in the end!

Tropical birds always come high up on our wish list when we visit the zoo, and the Hanging Tropical Bird kit is a lovely activity.  Monkey managed most of it himself, we modified the instructions slightly as we found the wings needed folding over 8 times rather than 4, to fit through the hole.  But otherwise this was a great craft kit.

What I love about the My Gecko Box set, is that all the templates are already done for you, you just have to cut them out.  Neither Monkey nor I are particularly artistic, so he loved the fact he just had to cut around leaves, beaks and feet to make parts for the various activities.

The painted bubble wrap for our Caiman was a great idea and really effective.

As I mentioned earlier, everything gets used in this set.  The box itself is the last activity, as it transforms into a Rainforest Diorama for all the animals to live in.  Complete with greenery and a river, it’s a fun and clever way to round off the month’s craft activities.

We’ve had a lot of fun getting crafty with My Gecko Box recently.  The monthly activity box is well thought out, is educational and everything other than scissors is provided.  The team works out of Spain supplying kits to children both their and in the UK.  As well as the subscription box service, they also offer a range of one-off discovery craft boxes and mini craft kits.  Payment is taken via Paypal.

For more information on these sets pop over to the My Gecko Box website.

disclosure:  we were sent the kit mentioned in exchange for an honest review
