Rhino Hero

Rhino Hero – review and giveaway

Every so often I come across something that has Monkey’s name written all over it.  It’s a moment when I just can’t wait to take delivery of an item and know it will be an instant hit. When Esdevium Games mentioned the Haba card game, Rhino Hero, that was one such moment.

Rhino Hero

Rhino Hero isn’t a game I’d heard of before, but it’s been a big hit since it arrived, and I think it’s perfect to play as a family over the festive season.  The game comes with one foundation card, 31 roof cards, 28 wall cards, a Rhino Hero and instructions.

Aimed at anyone aged  over 5 years, the game can be played with 2-5 players and works on manual dexterity, problem solving skills and hand eye co-ordination.  Game play typically lasts between 5-15 minutes.

The idea is to build a house as high as you can, moving Rhino Hero up levels and be the first to use all their cards, or be the one with the least cards left should the house collapse.  The fun of this game is in the actual building.

Each player is given 5 roof cards, or 7 if there are only 2 players playing Rhino Hero. The remaining roof cards are put in one pile and the wall cards are stacked in easy access for all players.

You place the foundation card, which has mark to indicate how and where the first wall cards should be placed.  Add the wall cards and then you then take it in turns to add a roof card, each roof card shows a different configuration for the next wall cards.

Rhino Hero is always in search of burglars, but of course he’s not the lightest of beasts, so when he needs placing on each floor you really need to think about where best to balance him.  If you don’t the house tower will collapse.

The wall cards bend in the middle so you can mould them to the correct shape to match the marks on the roof cards.  Some of the roof cards have special symbols on them which will affect how the game is played.

Rhino Hero

Play might have to change direction, you might have to miss a go, you might have to add a roof card from the main pack, you might even get to put another roof card on the one already placed.  If you see Rhino, then you have to move him from his current position to the new floor.  We’ve learnt the hard way, that when this card is played, it’s really better to have 360 degrees access to the house tower!

This is an ideal game to take with you if you are travelling as it comes in a small box.  The quick pace of the game make it ideal for children to play amongst themselves or with family.  It’s been a big hit here as Monkey and I have tried to out balance each other.

It get’s a big thumbs up.  Priced at around £9.00, Rhino Hero can be found from all good retailers and I’ve included my Amazon Affiliate link below.  It’s perfect stocking filler size too!

disclosure:  we were sent the item mentioned in exchange for an honest review

I’ve teamed up with Esdevium Games to offer one lucky reader the chance to win Rhino Hero for themselves.  It’s a great fun, 3D stacking game.  Good luck!

  1. It will be a focused family game with lots of concentration and hopefully no sneezes, coughs or secretly wobbling the table lol!

  2. ny eldest nephew jake, hes really good at games like this and loves jenga! hes good with balancing things!

  3. I’d like to be, as can recall years ago practising building up playing cards in a similar way. Hopefully we would all enjoy interacting , playing a game which is new to the family.

  4. my partner – he is better at balancing than I am (the kids wouldn’t get a chance…but of course we would have to give them a chance – secretly)

  5. I would be useless at it haha but my son and my partner would be good at it, especially my partner as he’s got patience

  6. My little boy’s Daddy would be the best at this game – why?…well because he has to be the winner at every game we play and if he’s not very good at first, he’d be up into the small hours practising until he was a champ at it 😉

  7. Probably my partner, he’s got a steady hand…….me on the other hand, would be useless, I shake like mad!

  8. My daughter and husband as they love playing games together although they are both far too competitive 🙂

  9. One of the twins in particular would be fab at this as he has the tenacity & patience – however the others are likely to lose their temper & knock it down resulting in arguments/fights – hmm …..should I really be trying to win this I have to ask myself!

  10. Probably me as I am more careful and focused. My children are like bulls in a China shop so it wouldn’t stay balanced for long x

  11. Me! because I have lots of patience. But it will be sent to my great niece who loves to build and also loves games – so she would be good as she will stick at it

I'd love to hear from you and try to reply to all comments
