Monkey has been learning all about the Stone Age at school this half term so when we were offered the chance to read Stone Underpants, I knew we had to say yes. Published through Maverick Arts Publishing last month this is the latest picture book from Rebecca Lisle.
We meet a Stone Age boy called Pod, the wind is freezing and quite frankly his leaf skirt isn’t keeping his bottom warm at all. Cue lots of giggles from a nearly 7-year-old Monkey.
When Pod’s father suggests that he makes something out of stone, Pod sets to work and makes his rather impractical Stone Underpants.
Whilst his Stone Underpants might be keeping his bottom warm, he soon discovers that he can’t run in them, not great when you’re playing football. He can’t swim in them either. Perhaps they’re not so great after all.
We follow Pod as he tries to make underpants out of wood, shells and even spiders webs. He bravely collects feathers from exotic birds, but even they are no good as underpants.
Can Pod’s Mum and a woolly mammoth come to the rescue?
Monkey has absolutely loved this book, and don’t faint, he’s actually read some of the book himself!! The story is full of fun and the Richard Watson illustrations work brilliantly. It’s been a big hit here and Monkey’s asked to take it in to school so his teacher can share with the rest of the class.
Priced at £6.99 Stone Underpants gets a big thumbs up here. I’ve included my Amazon Affiliate link for you below too.
