Project 366 2016 Week 49-50

Project 366 2016 Week 49-50 Day 339 – 352 – Christmas Lights, a 7th Birthday, a number of encounters with Father Christmas and the end of term.

Sunday 4th December  – Day 339

Project 366 2016 Week 49-50

We spent the day with my oldest friend and her family down in Wiltshire.  She’s also Monkey’s godmother.  After a lovely Sunday lunch we headed to the local village fayre and Monkey got a chance to visit Santa again!  This time he came home with a Lego type fire engine set.  We then headed to their local woods so he and Miss M could let off steam. Sticks were obviously involved.

On the way home we stopped outside a local house that goes nuts at this time of year. They raise a lot of money for charity and Monkey loves to go and see their display.

Monday 5th December – Day 340

Project 366 2016 Week 49-50

I had a lovely lunch out with my friend at The White Horse in Duns Tew.  She’d reviewed it with me a few months ago and we were so impressed we’d decided to have a lunch there again.

I came home to hear that there is a major issue with the boiler in my house.  How can a part be obsolete in something that’s only 15 years old.  It’s madness.  Christmas could well and truly be cancelled.

Monkey made Daddy P the most adorable Christmas card at Beavers tonight, when he got home he busily wrote a message which ended ‘love from your little train fan!’

Tuesday 6th December – Day 341

Project 366 2016 Week 49-50

How foggy was it this morning??  Could barely see across the road, so glad I work from home these days.

Monkey’s teacher told me he’d had some tests recently at school and had done really well. Looks like he’s fitted in two years worth of learning into one term.  It was time for a hair cut after school and he coped really well with a different hairdresser at the barbers.

Wednesday 7th December – Day 342

Project 366 2016 Week 49-50

Birthday cake making day ready for Monkey’s birthday tea at Pizza Express tomorrow with a few friends.  As we’re walking to school Monkey pipes up, Mummy I’d like a tractor cake please.  Uum, Monkey you told me you wanted a dinosaur themed cake.  No I want a tractor.  Well I’m sorry Monkey but you are definitely getting a dinosaur themed cake (seeing as I’d already got the personalised topper at home).  I let him look at it this evening and thankfully he loves it.  Panic over.

After school Monkey was full of the nativity rehearsals and decided to put on his own show.  Mummy I’m a builder boy.  No kidding.

Thursday 8th December – Day 343

Project 366 2016 Week 49-50

After school we took Monkey and three of his friends out for dinner at our local Pizza Express.  Daddy P and I were really surplus to requirements as the boys entertained themselves.  They had a great time and Monkey loved every moment.

Friday 9th December – Day 344

Project 366 2016 Week 49

A busy day!  After walking Monkey to school I dropped Brewster off at the cattery and headed into college.  It was the last lesson of term and we were all exhibiting some of our favourite shots.  The session went well and it was lovely to see how well everyone is doing.

Headed home, packed the cases, picked Monkey up early from school and we headed down the motorway to Kent.  4 hours later we finally arrived at the Ashford North Premier Inn. Tired and hungry we were very glad to have a quick dinner and head back to our room for the night.

Saturday 10th December – Day 345

Project 366 2016 Week 49

Monkey’s 7th birthday and he decided that starting the day before 4am was in order. Bring coffee!  After a hearty breakfast, we headed to Tenterden for a date with a very important man, who’d upgraded from a sleigh to a steam train.  Monkey was spellbound as he saw Father Christmas approaching.  The whole carriage sang Monkey Happy Birthday and FC made a point of coming back to him later in the journey to say he hoped he enjoyed the rest of his birthday, remembered his name too.

From there we headed over to Bodiam Castle to show Monkey what a moated castle looks like.  He had so much fun.

Dinner in Ashford and more pizza, followed by a trip down to Ashford International for a bit of Eurostar spotting before we all headed back to the hotel, and bed.

Sunday 11th December – Day 346

Project 366 2016 Week 49-50We woke up at a slightly more respectable time, and the sun had even come out to play.  After breakfast, we checked out and headed over to Scotney Castle, a real fairytale setting for some more adventures.  Monkey may have turned 7 but his love of sticks continues.

After lunch we popped into Ightham Mote for a look around, before heading back to the motorway and home.

Monkey had only opened a couple of his presents on his birthday, so he was thrilled to see a pile waiting a home for him.

Monday 12th December – Day 347

Project 366 2016 Week 50

I dropped Monkey off at school and headed out to pick Brewster up from the cattery.  He spent the rest of the day coming and going, enjoying having his freedom again.

Monkey cracked on with as Lego build after school.  We’d bought him a set for his birthday which includes a boat that can float – very exciting apparently.

Beavers had a Christmas Party for their end of term celebrations.  Monkey was a little unsure to start but seemed to be having a great time when I returned to pick him up.  A chocolate selection box present certainly won him over.

I’ve been having an issue with a Chalazion on my eyelid for weeks, it burst a few weeks ago, and looked to be healing nicely, but Saturday I woke up looking as if someone had punched me in the face.  Managed to get the swelling contained whilst we were away, but a call to triage was needed this morning, now on medication awaiting a proper appointment next week!

Tuesday 13th December – Day 348

Project 366 2016 Week 50

A Wriggly Nativity and yet again I forgot to take my DSLR so excuse the awful shot.  But for the first time in 4 years, Monkey actually looked to be enjoying the experience and joined in wholeheartedly.  It was lovely to watch, and see him and his friends in action. His last school nativity play 🙁

We also had some excitement at home as we now the skirting board sorted in the living room.  It will all need painting but that is a job for the new year, along with flooring.

Wednesday 14th December – Day 349

Project 366 2016 Week 50

It was Christmas Jumper day at school with a Christmas Dinner lunch for everyone.  Monkey had a bit of a wobble when we got to school, so spent most of the day wearing a school sweatshirt over his top.  But he was happy to show off Rudolph at home.

I had a mad baking day, mince pies, gingerbread biscuits and sorted out a lot of homemade Christmas chocolate shapes.  Monkey loved eating a matching Reindeer gingerbread biscuit after school.

Thursday 15th December – Day 350

Project 366 2016 Week 50

Monkey went on strike this morning.  Didn’t want to get up, eat, read, get dressed or go to school.  We got there in the end.  I headed off to get my hair sorted and have cuddles with baby E, who is growing up so fast bless him.

There was clearly more to Monkey’s mood this morning than just being tired.  When he came home from school he got straight on the sofa to lie down.  This is rare.  After a quick Skype to Mum and Dad in Spain, I checked Monkey’s temperature.  Ok, we need to give you some meds Monkey.  He barely ate anything for dinner and was as white as a sheet.

He ended up in bed with me, neither of us got much sleep.

Friday 16th December – Day 351

Project 366 2016 Week 50

Whilst I woke up feeling as if I needed another 12 hours sleep, Monkey woke up full of life, and seemed fine.  Ate his breakfast and was raring to go.  I mentioned the night before to his teacher in case things changed during the day.

Got some shopping bits done and decided to get the tree, Santa Express and decorations out as a surprise for Monkey when he came home from school.  The last day of term, he came out of class and I knew he wasn’t feeling well.  He was as hot as a steaming kettle, home and meds again.  But within half and hour they’d kicked in and he was fine again, although complaining of a sore throat to go with his cough.

He was soon rearranging the tree, giving Daddy P instructions of where to hang his paper chains and taking control of his train set.  With the fireplace gone, we’re lacking display space for everything and I’m making do with things until the new year.  It’s starting to feel like Christmas.

Saturday 17th December – Day 352

Project 366 2016 Week 49-50Today will be mainly fuelled by Calprofen.  Monkey ended up in bed with me again last night.  This morning he woke up with a soaring temperature, seemed to brighten up again but by lunchtime he was glued to the sofa, feeling sorry for himself.  When he’s refusing bananas and cheese on toast you know he’s not right.

My brother, SIL and youngest niece popped over this afternoon with his birthday and Christmas presents and he cheered up a bit, but now he’s back on the sofa feeling ‘yucky’. Luckily the restaurant we were meant to be reviewing tomorrow asked if we could postpone earlier, that was meant to be.

  1. Hope Monkey is feeling better soon. We had to replace a 5 year old boiler the other year – was not impressed especially as at our previous house the boiler had kept going for at least 20 years.

  2. So sorry to hear Monkey’s not feeling well, hope he starts feeling better soon. I too am short on display space. Or rather… I’m short on display space where little 2yo hands can’t reach

  3. Lots going on in your house as usual, I see. I love the charity lights, but really wouldn’t want to live opposite a house like that. Well done on Monkey doing so well in school and coping at the barbers.

  4. Busy week. Well done Monkey on his nativity, tests and beavers party. We still don’t know anything about the tests N did (or whether he even did the maths one before going off sick), but I suppose we’ll find out at parents evening in January. Have a great Christmas
