Monkey takes the #QuickBuildTimeChallenge with Airfix

As I’ve mentioned before I grew up watching my Dad make up his model racing cars.  The kits he built were complex, required gluing, painting and had transfer stickers to attach. They really are beyond Monkey’s abilities at the moment, but not forever.  In the meantime we’ve had some model building fun as Monkey takes the #QuickBuildTimeChallenge with Airfix.

We received the Airfix Quickbuild Hawk and Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 models. Both are aimed at children aged 5 years and over.  The kits require no glue or paint and come complete with stickers and instructions sheets.  Monkey had been set a challenge to see how quickly he could complete both models.

The Airfix Quickbuild Hawk comes with 28 pieces, can be fitted with bombs or to a display stand and has 18 stickers to position once completed.

The instructions are easy to follow and construction is easy with a construction brick style placement.

Monkey very quickly got the hang of the build process and needed no help to identify the various pieces and follow the instructions. He found the pieces easy to handle and everything fit together well.

He did need a little help with a few of the stickers, but really that was all and he’d gone all out to set a quick time. Monkey takes the #QuickBuildTimeChallenge with Airfix and completed the Hawk in 5 minutes and 15 seconds.

When it came to building the Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4, Monkey was less anxious to make the kit up as quickly as possible.  This set comes with 32 pieces and 22 stickers.

The build was a little more complex as Monkey needed to identify which pieces were for the left and right hand side of the car, and the tyres had to be fitted to the wheel hubs.  But he totally had it covered.

We did have one issue with this particular kit when it came to the stickers.  We have no idea where stickers 16 and 21 are meant to go, and I’ve spent ages looking at the car and instructions trying to figure it out.  Still none the wiser.  So Monkey takes the #QuickBuildTimeChallenge with Airfix and completed the Lamborghini in 12 minutes and 33 seconds.

The kit pieces are robust and the finished vehicles look able to handle a lot of play. Monkey has certainly shown that’s he’s got his Gramps’s genes on the model making front. Priced at £12.99 each these Quickbuild models from Airfix are a great step into the work of model making.  The mess free element has gone down well with me too.  Airfix have a wide range of model kits available for all ages and these can be found on their website.

disclosure:  we were sent the items mentioned along with a stop watch to complete this challenge.  We comments remain my own honest opinions

About Over 40 and a Mum to One

I'm a Mum in my late 40′s with a 7 year old son. I had a busy life in Export Sales before my Monkey came along, but decided to become a stay at home Mum once he arrived. Now I enjoy writing my own family lifestyle and travel blog. sharing the adventures that we have as Monkey makes his journey through school. We have a cat called Brewster who makes appearances and I’m a mad Ferrari Formula 1 fan, so that expect to hear about as each season unfolds. We love reviewing toys, games and books and would love the opportunity to look at anything that fits in with our family lifestyle. We are always out and about and offering an insight on the places we visit, with a passion for nature thrown in for good measure.
