Project 365 2017 Week 1

Project 365 2017 Week 1 Day 1-7 and here we go again – year 4 no less!

Sunday 1st January  – Day 1

Project 365 2017 Week 1

We don’t normally take the tree and decorations down until later in the week, but everyone apart from Brewster was ready for a new start.  He really wasn’t best pleased that I removed his plaything for another 11 months.

Monday 2nd January – Day 2

Project 365 2017 Week 1

With Daddy P’s normal working hours he’s not had an opportunity to visit the festive lights at Waddesdon Manor, so as it was their last day, we headed over in the afternoon.  It also gave me a chance to try out my new 70-300mm lens.  I managed to get some love detailed shots of the stonework on the manor house itself as well as a few of the birds in the aviary.

Tuesday 3rd January – Day 3

Project 365 2017 Week 1

Monkey’s last day at home with me and we decided to watch some films and build Lego.  His perfect day.

Wednesday 4th January – Day 4

Project 365 2017 Week 1

First day back at school and the morning drop off went better than I’d expected, after the normal moaning about not liking school.  I headed back home, to glimmers of a blue sky.

We’ve had issues with our Sky box/TV for the last week and we’d finally narrowed the issue down to our only 6 month old TV.  I tested it again this morning – all good.  Monkey came home from school and of course, we lost sound again.  Finally looks like it’s the flipping HDMI cable, but cheap to fix thankfully.

I had a good sort out in the kitchen and chucked lots of stuff I really don’t use.  When I picked Monkey up his teacher asked to arrange a meeting to talk about SATS preparation.  Monkey’s going to get some extra help before or after school to help him be ready in the months to come.  We’re discussing in more detail next week.  Part of me hates the idea of SATS and the madness of this curriculum, part of me just wants him to have every opportunity to catch up with his peers.  But I certainly don’t want his world to revolve around school and homework.  We will see. He did come home with a little reward for some beautiful hand writing today, so he was chuffed with himself.

Thursday 5th January – Day 5

Project 365 2017 Week 1

Monkey woke up whilst I was getting ready this morning, the next thing I hear is him reading a book (READING a book) to himself.  He then moved to my bed and carried on, and over breakfast.  A much easier book than his school book, but who cares.  It’s a good start.

It was a tad chilly on the walk to school this morning.  Today’s focus was on getting my tax return completed and filled.  Nothing like leaving it to the last minute.  All done and out the way, just need to start sorting my records monthly from now on.

More independent reading after school – woop!

Friday 6th January – Day 6

Project 365 2017 Week 1

One of those days when I haven’t seemed to actually get much done.  Freezing walk to school this morning, followed by a check up at the Dentist for me. With all the issues I’ve had with my gums over the years I always find these trips somewhat stressful. But everything is fine, just need a bit of a clean and polish in a couple of weeks.  Phew.

Home to try and sort the frigging Sky box/TV issue we’ve been having since the last week of the holidays.  Sky engineer is another week away.  So today we’ve changed the HDMI cable, let’s see if that keeps the volume in place until next Wednesday or not.

Ice turned to rain for the school walk this afternoon, and Monkey was in a bit of a grump.  I then proceeded to spill a bag of rice all over the floor – I’ll leave you to picture that, I wasn’t in the mood to take a photo!

Brewster took it all in his stride and came to my rescue when I realised I’d not taken a photo all day.  Week 1 and he’s already come to my rescue.

Saturday 7th January – Day 7

Project 365 2017 Week 1

Monkey and I travelled down to London to spend a day learning about animated film with Chocolate Films to celebrate the release of Kubo and the Two Strings on DVD. We teamed up with Chelsea Mamma and her family and the kids made a great little film.  They definitely went for the ‘more is more’ approach when it came to props and as the youngest team theirs was certainly the most colourful.  We’re just home and both shattered.  Not sure who will be in bed first tonight!

  1. The cats do come in handy when you haven’t taken a photo! Love the one of Brewster in the tree! Made me laugh!

    The film sounds interesting

  2. Cats!! 🙂 Lovely photos, and the detail in the bird is beautiful! I love that cats, and other pets, help with those days when we need a photo! Happy New Year.

  3. Great to hear about Monkey’s independent reading.
SATs practise in year 2?! Aaagh! That all seems wrong to me. At our school they make the SATs a part of the normal day in year 2 and the kids genuinely don’t realise they’re doing them, which seems the best way as nobody will get stressed.
Love that photo of the bird. I’d love a new lens for my camera (or maybe a new camera?!) as mine is really unreliable and unpredictable these days!

    1. I know what you mean. They don’t make a fuss as far as the kids are concerned. But she and I both know that Monkey freaks with out of the ordinary things. He’s had so far to come to catch up with where his peers are, it’s a double edged sword really. But I’ll see what is involved on Wednesday and go from there.

  4. Love the cat in the tree photo! And the bird shot is beautiful. My eldest sat his first formal exams when he was eight, crazy! Takes them in his stride though, thankfully. It will be his brothers first year of them next year…

  5. How wonderful that Monkey is reading to himself. Brewster looks gorgeous, as always. Love the bird picture too. Happy new year to you all!

  6. Lego is always very popular in this house and a nightmare to clear away , as I am always finding some all over there house!!! I love hearing my boys read a book too 🙂
I did smile at your cat inside your tree ha ha – what a cheeky cat! The bird you captured its very pretty .
    happy new year x

  7. sounds like a fab start to the new year, cats (and dogs) always come in handy for a photo prompt, hope you managed to get all the rice up or you’ll be finding pieces all year

  8. I hate this idea of SATs for such young children. It’s too much stress!
Brewster looks like he’s having fun with the xmas tree!

  9. I hope Monkey is going to be OK at school. My mum sent me to extra lessons on a Sunday morning and I hated every minute of it. That was to help me with the 11+. I didn’t pass it, or even know what my results were come to think of it. I really don’t agree with this testing at 7 x
