Project 365 2017 Week 11 Day 71 – 77

Sunday 12th March  – Day 71

Project 365 2017 Week 11

Exciting stuff, we bought a new door mat for the hallway, and one for the garden by our patio door.  Hopefully they will encourage Monkey and Brewster to use them! We’ve also arrange for the carpet fitters to come back out later in the week to quote for the stairs, landing and bedrooms.  We can’t afford to do any more of it yet, but at least I can see what I need to work towards in the months ahead.

It had been raining all day, and we headed out to the Natural History Museum at Tring for the afternoon.  On Sunday’s it only opens in the afternoons and it was really busy.  But we all enjoyed the trip, it has to be one of the weirdest places I’ve been as it’s full of stuffed animals.

Monday 13th March – Day 72

Project 365 2017 Week 11

What a glorious day.  I may have actually left the house without a coat (this is rare!).  I spent most of the day trying to sort the spare room out, listing things on the local Facebook selling sites and trying to make the room possible for the carpet fitters to measure tomorrow without me dying of embarrassment.  Gave a load of books away that I’ve been hanging on to for years, agreed to take some things in for Nursery and Reception to make use of, and we are still in chaos.  You’d think I’d got six kids and not one.

Monkey came out of school in just the loveliest of moods – full of cuddles and kisses.  He almost walked straight into Beavers tonight without me having to come in too.  I think he forgot for a minute that it wasn’t school.  If I hadn’t of said bye then, he’d have done it.  Silly me.  Anyway, this was the view as I walked to pick him up just before 7pm, not totally dark – yippee!

Tuesday 14th March – Day 73

Project 365 2017 Week 11

I got on with some work in the morning and my friend A came round for a coffee and catch up when she finished work.  Monkey came out of school telling me he hadn’t been given his homework, why he couldn’t have mentioned this to his teacher, who knows.  Something to sort in the morning.

His love affair with Brewster continues.  I think you can tell from this shot, that it’s not a mutual arrangement.  Poor Brewster, I think he dreads 3.15 in the afternoons.

Wednesday 15th March – Day 74

Project 365 2017 Week 11

The bed invader had returned but luckily we both went straight off to sleep.  It’s lovely waking up to a sleeping Monkey, wondering what adventure he is having in the Land of Nod.

I popped into town to get some jobs done and the latest Lego Ferrari set might have just jumped into my basket. The prospect of being able to make it certainly spurred Monkey on to get his handwriting homework done after school.

There were changes at school announced yesterday and I’m not sure what impact it will have on Monkey as his class teacher will have to spread herself across two classes for the rest of the year.  Today seemed to go ok, and I hope it doesn’t affect him relationship with the teacher as she has done so much to help him.  Time will tell.

Thursday 16th March – Day 75

Project 365 2017 Week 11

Ok so technically this is a screen dump rather than a photo, but I’m bending my rules for one day.  I wrote a post yesterday about the inspiration How to Train Your Dragon has given my reluctant reader and writer.  This morning the author of the book series, Cressida Cowell, replied to my tweet.  This is the joy of social media.  Monkey will be beside himself after school, as I was when I read it.  It made me think just how excited a 7-year-old me would have been to have seen those words written to me by Astrid Lindgren.  Wonderful.

In other news, as I clear our spare room, I realised just how many jigsaw puzzles I’ve accumulated over the last few years.  I often send them out to friends to make up, but they really needed a new home.  I had contacted a local care home earlier in the week to see if they could make use of the puzzles for their residents, and they were thrilled to receive them.  My good deed for the day.

Year 2 SATS meeting after school – there aren’t words to fully express my feelings about what we are doing to our children.

Friday 17th March – Day 76

Project 365 2017 Week 11

Ironically seeing as I’ve been at my photography class today, I’ve only taken one shot all day and that was of the staircase in a cafe.  I headed over to Witney after college to meet a couple of my NCT group for lunch at Hunters Cake Cafe.  I was good (for a change) and stuck to a ciabatta, but the cakes did look totally amazing.  Next time.

Saturday 18th March – Day 77

Project 365 2017 Week 11

We were heading to Banbury to spend the day with my ex MIL and we popped into Brantano on the way, to get Monkey’s feet measured.  He’s gone up a whole size so new school shoes (his choice) and plimsolls were purchased.  He’ll need new casual shoes for home too but they only had trainers and I’m not a fan.  So that will be a trip for another day.  He’s catching me up a little too quickly now.

Project 365

About Over 40 and a Mum to One

I'm a Mum in my late 40′s with a 7 year old son. I had a busy life in Export Sales before my Monkey came along, but decided to become a stay at home Mum once he arrived. Now I enjoy writing my own family lifestyle and travel blog. sharing the adventures that we have as Monkey makes his journey through school. We have a cat called Brewster who makes appearances and I’m a mad Ferrari Formula 1 fan, so that expect to hear about as each season unfolds. We love reviewing toys, games and books and would love the opportunity to look at anything that fits in with our family lifestyle. We are always out and about and offering an insight on the places we visit, with a passion for nature thrown in for good measure. If you like what you read please leave me a comment, I love to hear from people, and always try to reply. Enjoy the read.

  1. Wow, Monkey’s feet are catching you up! Needless to say, there’s only one person in my house with smaller feet than me – in fact there’s only one person in my house who is shorter than me!
I love the photo of Monkey and Brewster. Brewster looks enormous. How amazing is that tweet? I’ve had tweets from favourite children’s authors before and it’s so exciting! 🙂

  2. Sounds like you had a lovely week – Yes Brewster looks like our cat Hogan in this shot – tollerating it but not really enjoying it!

  3. Oh poor Brewster. Kids are funny with animals once they all of a sudden ‘discover’ them. N is obsessed with our dog at the moment but she loves it. He would spend forever tickling her tummy!

Urgh, Brantano trainers aren’t great either. We struggle because for N’s size they’re usually fashion trainers (can’t use for sport, although we did buy a pair for smarter casual wear), really narror nike ones, or character ones which I detest.

  4. Awww love that pic of Monkey and Brewster. Rosie (our cat) hides from my youngest as she is a bit in her face….but in the calmer moments she will come sit next to her!

Glad the jigsaws found a new home!

  5. It’s surprising how much ‘stuff’ we accumulate. Our boys had loads of toys, games and books and a lot of it was passed to local schools and charities when we moved and as they grew older.
Nothing much changes though, our under-stairs cupboard is full of ‘stuff’ for the grandchildren!

  6. Oh wow how wonderful that Cressida messaged you. I love that movie and we’ve watched it so many times. Love the photo with Brewster. So sweet even though he doesn’t look so keen 🙂
