I was glued to the page when I read Bone By Bone last year, so when the latest novel from Sanjida Kay popped through my letterbox recently, I may just have squealed with delight.
The Stolen Child is published through Corvus on 6th April 2017 and honestly, if you like a good thriller, pre-order it now, you won’t regret it.
You know when you read something and inside your head you’re screaming at a character to do something, change their mind etc? Well The Stolen Child is one of those books. You get sucked into the plot so quickly, and lead down a certain path, at odds with one of the characters, Zoe Morley, but who’s right?
I’d received a card the day before The Stolen Child arrived, inside it read ‘Seven Years Ago You Stole My Child, now I want her back ……’. It freaked me a little, as I do actually have a 7-year-old child, albeit a boy, but even so. The penny dropped when the book arrived, phew, I don’t have a stalker!
In the Stolen Child we meet artist Zoe and her husband Ollie Morley and their children Evie and Ben. The couple had tried for years to have a baby with no luck, and adopt baby Evie at birth. She’s a baby going through drug withdrawal as her mother was an addict. She small and delicate, but a fighter. Then they have a little miracle baby in the form of Ben, a child conceived naturally. The family is living in Yorkshire, and Zoe is trying to prepare for her art exhibition. But the family is about to unravel before her eyes. Her now 7-year-old daughter has started to receive presents and cards, which she’s been hiding from her family. They are from her father.
I don’t want to say much more about the plot, as it will ruin it for you, if you decide to read The Stolen Child. Relationships are formed and trust is broken, as Zoe disappears. Who has taken her and why? The book is beautifully written, full of suspense and intrigue and it cleverly takes the reader on a journey as you piece together the story of the Morley family and little Evie’s past. There’s a great twist to the tale, and that’s all I can say.
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed reading The Stolen Child and I look forward to reading more from Sanjida Kay in the future. My Amazon Affiliate link image is below, in case I’ve tempted you to turn the pages of this thriller.
disclosure: I was sent this book in exchange for an honest review.
