On the Farm

On the Farm – AD a review for Orchard Toys

disclosure:  we were sent the item mentioned for the purpose of review

We were very excited to open our latest box from Orchard Toys recently for the purpose of this review. It’s fair to say that my son was rather excited to open the box and find On the Farm – a giant jigsaw playmat, which is a newly launched puzzle/playmat for ages 3 years+.  It’s perfect for my son who is just over 3 years.  This puzzle can also be linked to the Orchard Toys Giant Road jigsaw for extended play – what a great idea 🙂

You can see the video below which gives you a good idea of how On the Farm works in practice.

To recap ……..

I was impressed by the size of the On the Farm playmat, it’s certainly larger than I expected.  It comes with 12 stand up characters, including a lovely large tractor, the farm family and a number of farm animals.  There are ‘link’ pieces so you can add to the Giant Road jigsaw and ‘ends’ in case you are using this as a stand-alone item.

The play possibilities are endless.  My son has already been ploughing the field next to the farm with his big Plastic Tractor, and introduced his plastic farm animals to their new ‘home’. Since this game arrived, it has been the first item to be played with every morning – it is a big hit.

It’s an Orchard Toys game so as you’d expect it’s a good, quality product with bright, colourful graphics.  We talked about the pictures on the playmat and made a story up as we went along.  The playmat is easily stored away and takes minimal effort to assemble.

The only downside, in my opinion, is the thickness of the puzzle pieces themselves.  They are thinner than other floor puzzles we have, and we found, therefore, that the puzzle came apart a little too easily with my son crawling over it, playing with the characters.

On the Farm currently retails at £13.95 (2013) which I personally think is good value for money for a playmat offering a lot of play opportunities on its own merit as well as an add on to the Giant Road jigsaw already available.

  1. The thing you mention about the thickness of the pieces is one of my concerns-my little boy is the same age as Monkey was in the review and he too would be crawling all over it. He’d get frustrated if the pieces kept breaking apart as he’s quite the perfectionist. Still very tempted though 🙂

    1. We used it on carpet, others who reviewed at the same time used it on hard flooring with no problems. We’ve since used it in our kitchen lino and it’s much better. Monkey can crawl all over it there with no problems. It is my only niggle really, as other OT floor puzzles are much thicker.

I'd love to hear from you and try to reply to all comments
