Friends have been recommending we try Cotswold Farm Park for ages, we ran out of weekend’s last year, so we finally decided to go last weekend while Daddy P was off for a few days. He’s also a big fan of BBC Countryfile and was rather interested to learn that the Park is owned/run by Adam Henson who features regularly on the programme.
On Saturday we left home in sunshine and it looked like being a nice Spring day. Um, by the time we arrived in Gloucestershire we were back to grey skies and pouring rain 🙁
Being British and a former Brownie/Girl Guide, I had obviously packed everything from suncream to waterproofs so we had all bases covered. So wellies on my son’s feet and off we went. He’d already seen a tractor pulling a trailer full of visitors around the park as we pulled up so he was rather excited.
We paid £8.50 for Daddy P and me, and as my son is now 3 years, we paid £7.50 for him. Bags of animal feed were available, I don’t know how much they cost, as on hearing that we were celebrating my birthday, the lady at the Kiosk gave me a bag as a present 🙂 Funny, but a nice touch and my son was chuffed.
What to do first? As it was really raining hard we decided to start in the Touch Barn to see the baby chicks, rabbits etc and then into the Demo Barn where we were privileged to see a baby lamb being born – how amazing was that!
It was still raining so we decided we’d just have to make the best of a bad job – good old English weather. There is a large selection of rare breeds on show (most seemed as impressed with the weather conditions as us!), with lots of information to hand and ‘talking’ points along the way. The rain just kept coming, playing in the great sand pits was not going to be top of our agenda sadly.
There is a wooden viewing tower so you can look over the farm and see the Cotswolds (well on a nice day), but my son enjoyed looking out at all the animals.
We fed some goats and sheep and headed off for a walk around the Woodland Adventure activity area, the rain just kept coming.
In the end, one cold and wet son had had enough so we decided to call it a day. It was such a shame about the weather. We will definitely be back on a nicer day to really appreciate all that the Park offers, and could see that there was plenty to keep my son amused on a brighter day. I can see why others had recommended it, we will too 🙂
The weather has been really pants recently hasn’t it? Glad you managed to squeeze some fun in though!!
Hasn’t it just! Getting a bit sick of it now 🙂
Sorry to hear about the weather – it’s been a bit rubbish so far this Spring hasn’t it. But it sounds like you made the most of it!
The weather’s just been awful hasn’t it! It was such a shame, if we’d gone today the day would have been totally different, but saying that we still enjoyed ourselves and will go back again on a nice sunny day 🙂
We love farm visits – haven’t managed to fit one in yet this Spring (now know what I will do on Friday this week).
So do we, I love seeing lambs. Always remind me of driving down to my Granny’s as a child for her birthday and seeing all the lambs in the fields. Makes you feel that summer is on the way (hopefully)
Urgh typical British weather. I love taking the children to farms. Glad you managed to make the most of it. xx #countrykids
You said it, you just have to make the most of it in this country don’t you x
This sounds like our days out sunshine at home but raining when we get there!! haha! I’m glad you still managed to have fun though! x x
Typical England isn’t it! We were so gutted when we got there but were determined to make the most of it. What a different story if we’d gone today!
I have heard lots of good things about this farm park. It does look very well run and with many of the same featuresd and animals as us I do wonder if one day we will find the time to open for day visits. It certainly looks like all who go benefit from their time spent there. Thank you for sharing on Country Kids.
It is a very well run Park, lots of interaction. We were very impressed, despite the awful weather. Enjoying #Country Kids x
You certainly seemed to have made the best of the farm despite the weather! So much of what country kids is about.
in this country you’ve just got to get on with it haven’t you! Would have been so much nicer if we’d gone yesterday instead
Why is it always rainy when you plan for a great day out? I like that you didn’t let the rain dampen your spirits.
Nipping over from the Country Kids linky.
Thanks, just got to get those wellies on and go for it! #CountryKids
I’m forever doing this – going outside a day too late when the weather turns horrid. Great way to spend your birthday though x
Typical isn’t it!
