Shoulder To Shoulder To Day #S2S2D

shoulder to shoulder

Today Whiskey for Aftershave and I are co-hosting the #S2S2D.

It’s an honour to be part of this blog hop – which was originally set up to cheer up Emma at Crazy with Twins whilst she was isolated from her children after a recent intensive radiotherapy treatment for a Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma.

Having been diagnosed in January this year she had to go through surgery as well as this radiation treatment.  Poor girl, she’d already beaten leukaemia as a child.  She endured all of this and faced the prospect of not being able to hold her nearest and dearest, firstly in treatment and then whilst her radiation levels subsided.  Emma is 27, with 3 children aged 7 and 1.

The good news is that Emma is now able to hug her kids as much as she likes, and can share a bed with her husband again – fantastic news 🙂

So, while we obviously still want to keep Emma’s spirits up, we also want to raise awareness of various cancer charities that Emma supports and to make us all take time to get lumps and bumps checked – something she wished she’d done earlier herself.

Firstly, Emma and Sarah from Mum of Three World will be taking part in the Race for Life on 7th July – you can also sponsor her here.

Also, Emma has asked us to raise awareness of the great work that Maggie’s Cancer Centre’s do for those with cancer and their families – from diagnosis, through treatment and beyond, and in the worst-case scenario – end of life and bereavement.

Something else that Emma would like to do is to find a sponsor to buy an iPad for the iodine room at the Cheltenham General Hospital so other people undergoing treatment can have access to it on a permanent basis (you can’t take your own items into this room due to the high radiation levels). Can you help?  Do you know someone who can?  Please contact Emma, either through her blog or on Twitter @crazywithtwins

Now hopefully this little story will make you giggle a little, or at least have some sympathy with an old fart, who is obviously losing the plot!

One Friday morning a couple of weeks ago, I needed to go out to the garage to get some gardening tools – a simple task, until I discovered that the garage key wasn’t in its ‘home’.  Um, what had I done with it?  Couldn’t blame anyone else for its disappearance unfortunately as I was definitely the last person to have gone to the garage the night before.

I retraced my steps – the garage door was locked, the key wasn’t on the driveway, couldn’t see it in the hallway, and no it’s hadn’t miraculously reappeared on the display shelf in the kitchen.  One husband is now getting rather narky with me – it’s the only key (I blame him for this fact, it was his house before I ever moved in!).  So at this point, I couldn’t get to the gardening tools, the freezer full of food, my son’s scooter or pedal tractor or to the loft ladder – all things we needed on Friday.

I’m as stubborn as a ram – Aries through and through, we live in a rather small house – the key MUST be here somewhere.  I will not allow a locksmith to be called until Monday if we still haven’t found the key.  My husband is not happy, but we’re skint and I’m not paying a call-out fee for anything unless there is no other option!! Plus it’s my fault the key has disappeared – not a fact that sits well with me.

So the rest of Friday comes and goes, on Saturday my husband and I empty all of the toy boxes in the Living Room, just in case my Monkey son is playing a game, we tip the sofa up, move all the furniture and still no key 🙁

On Sunday, I’m in bed with a stomach bug, when my husband comes upstairs looking rather smug.  He dangles a key in front of me, THE key.  Where oh where did he find it (why did HE have to find it??)

He took great pleasure in telling me he found the key in the washing peg basket, in the store cupboard, in the kitchen.  To this day I HAVE NO IDEA how it got there. This leaves me wondering whether hitting the ripe old age of 45 has had a bigger impact than I first thought ……

  1. I can match you for age and match you for equally silly key episodes, perhaps worse, I lost the car key a few months ago in the space of 5 minutes here in the house and it never turned up. Cost £140 for a new one and to this day I have no idea how I came home from the school run and never saw the car key again! Lovely hosty post

  2. I did laugh but completely empathise with you! I am constantly retracing my steps trying to find something I had ‘misplaced’ and often find it in the most bizarre place. I think it’s multi-tasking brain hardwire failure every so often 😉 x

  3. Oh, you young things & your jolly japes! Wait ’til you jet to my age! 😉

I can identify with the key thing. We have spares!

  4. Oh, you young things & your jolly japes! Wait ’til you get to my age! 😉

I can identify with the key thing. We have spares!

  5. Oh dear! I’m ‘only’ 39, but I would do such a thing. Twice recently my keys have gone missing only to reappear in my BAG of all places about three days later. Whoops!
Thanks very much for the mention 🙂

    1. I swear it’s having children. I can honestly say I have never lost or mislaid a key until I had Monkey. Last year I ‘misplaced’ the patio door key for nearly a week 🙂

  6. Like Sarah, I’m ‘only’ 39 – but this happens to me with everything! Keys, sunglasses, the kids hats, shoes – you name it and I will lose it! Great host post 🙂

  7. Ha ha, your tale made me giggle! As an Aries I understand the stubbornness I would have done the same and likely would have removed the garage door before allowing anyone to help me! x

  8. Could have easily happened to me, I always misplace things. Or do the grocery lists and then leave them at home, etc etc

  9. I am so sorry I have only just got round to reading this! Don’t you just hate it when the other half gets their first?! And even worse when they think it was all your fault! Thank you for being a part of shoulder to shoulder to day AND the BritMums Carnival xx

I'd love to hear from you and try to reply to all comments
