Postal cake? That’s my kind of delivery – AD sent for review

disclosure:  We were sent this cake for the purpose of review, our comments, however, remain our own honest thoughts.

We are big cake lovers in this house, I do a fair bit of baking myself, but when Baker Days offered to give me some time off I jumped at the chance! So who are Baker Days and what do they do?

The Baker Days website makes it simple to create your own special design of cake.  Choose a size and flavour, then add your special message!

I was amazed by the number of options on the website, covering every event you can imagine, you can create your own design or use one of Baker Days own selection.

With Father’s Day looming and having not had a moment to bake myself, I had a look through the website and found a cake with a Chimp on it.  This may not sound like a probable Father’s Day cake, but with a son nicknamed Monkey, it seemed like the only choice for us!

I selected the 5-inch letterbox size cake at £14.99 (suitable for 3-4 portions, so just right for us).  There are other size options catering from 10-55 portions). We all love carrot cake so that seemed like a good choice (there are other options), and I asked for it to be personalised with Happy Father’s Day.

I placed my order and waited for the delivery.  I was interested to see if, a) it actually did fit through the letterbox and b) what condition would it be in when it arrived? This was my first experience ordering cake online for postal delivery.

When the box arrived I didn’t realise what it was and nearly blew the surprise the day before Father’s day.  Realising just in time, I made a hasty retreat to the kitchen to view our delivery before hiding it for the big day.

As you will see in my short video, when you open the delivery box, there is a lovely cake tin with the message ‘Just for You’ and some sweeties too, along with a little card.

As you can see, the cake arrived totally intact, well covered and with a handy tab to ease removal from the tin – a great idea.  I hoped Daddy P ‘got’ the whole Monkey idea!

So, the next morning, we gave Daddy P his presents and card and then my son said ….

Daddy – you’ve got CAKE, Monkey CAKE!! – look

It did ruin the surprise a little, but we showed Daddy the cake and decided to try it later in the day.

What did we think?  The cake was easy to cut, was beautifully moist and fresh with soft icing (not too thick) and tasted really good.  It didn’t last long with three cake-a-holics in the house.

This little video shows our Father’s Day presentation 🙂

I really like the idea of sending someone you care about a little cake, so many of us live miles away from family and friends these days, that this is an ideal way to make someone smile on a special day.  It’s great for me, my parents live in Spain, we aren’t there for pretty much every special occasion, but now I have the option of sending them a little surprise every so often too.

We all enjoyed this cake from Baker Days and I’d definitely recommend them and their service.
