Colman’s Season and Shake – AD sent for review

disclosure:  we were sent the items mentioned for the purpose of review

We were recently given the opportunity to try Colman’s Season & Shake seasoning mixes.  There are a number of different mixes to try – we were sent 4 different ones to try 🙂

You’ll never want to cook the old way again. So easy and mess free, Season & Shake combines delicious seasoning with a convenient baking bag to seal in the flavours of herbs and spices – as well as all the juices from your fish or meat. It’s the sure-fire way to succulent success. And with no added MSG, artificial colours or preservatives, it just gets better. Did we mention no washing up?

I normally try to cook everything from scratch, but at the moment life is really rather hectic so when something comes along which will save me a little time in the kitchen I’m eager to give it a go!

I decided to try the Garlic & Herb Roast Chicken Seasoning Mix first, rather than a whole chicken, I’d got some chicken quarters to use so thought this would be a good idea to try.

The packet has 2 sections, the top half contains a roasting bag with a tie and the second half contains the seasoning mix.

The instructions are easy to follow, although I did struggle a little to read the text!

Basically, I preheated the fan oven to 180 degrees C, opened the baking bag, placed the chicken quarters inside and added 1 dessert spoon of olive oil.  Rubbed the oil over the chicken and then added the seasoning mix.

I sealed the bag with the tie and moved the chicken around within the bag until it was all well coated. This might have been a bit easier with a whole chicken, as some of the chicken quarters were better covered than others.  I then placed the roasting bag in an ovenproof dish and placed it in the oven for 1 hour.

After an hour I slit open the bag and placed it back in the oven for a further 15 minutes to crisp up the chicken skin.

As we’ve actually had some sun, I served with salad.

So what did we think?  The chicken was lovely and moist and I loved the flavouring, would definitely try on a proper Sunday roast.  I did find the bag idea a bit fiddly with the chicken quarters, so will be interesting to try with a whole chicken.

I’ll be trying one of the other mixes soon …
