As regular readers of the blog know we are working with the RSPB and they recently sent me a few ideas to entice birds into the garden, whilst getting my son involved too. They set us a challenge – make your own bird feeder. The RSPB have a great Youth membership scheme and provide all sorts of fun activities and this make your own bird feeder is part of their Make ‘N’ Do activities section.
So what did we need?
A used (and cleaned) drinks bottle (thank you Daddy P, our fizzy pop fan)
Some string
Scissors
Birdseed
I cut a hole in the drinks bottle ……
and made a few holes in the bottom so any rainwater can drain out ……
I then tied some string around the neck of the bottle so we could hang it up, and then it was over to my son to fill it with birdseed.
Then it was ready for hanging up.
Now we wait for some hungry birds to enjoy themselves.
Fab idea and great activity for kids, will have to give it a go with my boys! They would enjoy seeing birds feeding here.
It’s so easy to do, and no extra costs involved either.
What a great idea, so easy and cheap too!
Yep – and great fun for kids to fill up and then learn about the birds who come for some dinner!
So simple – what a great idea – hope you get lots of birds come to visit now. Thank for linking up to this weeks Summer Play Linky.
That’s a great idea!
It’s very simple and effective!
