The Anagranimals and the Wishing Tree – a book review and giveaway

We recently visited Longleat Safari and Adventure Park and Monkey got to see lots of wild animals up close – a real treat.  We’ve been talking about the animals he saw a lot since then, so it was quite a coincidence when I opened the post and found a copy of The Anagranimals and the Wishing Tree by Leith Moghli waiting for us to read.

The Anagranimals and the Wishing TreeNow I have to point out that this book is primarily aimed at children aged 5-9 years, it is a fairly long book with a lot of complex text – as you can see if you click on the image below.

The Anagranimals and the Wishing Tree

But as you know, I read all sorts of things with Monkey and I knew the wonderful illustrations by Ian King would help to keep his attention.

The Anigranimals are a group of friends – a Giraffe, Pig, Hippo, Rhino, Elephant and Lion who live together in a magical land called Pogo Bogo.  The friends have great fun together and end up rolling down a hill straight in to the Wishing Tree.

Now, if you had one wish what would you wish for?  I think I’d wish for more hours in the day at the moment!!  But the friends finally decide to wish for

….. the best bits of our favourite animals?  Rocky has always wanted to be able to fly like a bird and I would love to be able to gallop like a Zebra.   ….. (Ebenezer Elephant)

You can imagine the sight can’t you when Ebenezer and his friends get their wish come true the next morning – Ebenezer for one is no longer just an Elephant, oh no, he’s an Ele-Zeb-Zee – part elephant, part zebra, part chimpanzee!

Monkey thought this part of the story was really funny and we giggled through the pages as the friends got used to their new bodies.

Without wishing, excuse the pun, to ruin the rest of the story for you, the friends thank the Wishing Tree and are sent on a mission to help his cousin the Weeping Willow – you’ll need to enter my giveaway to find out how the adventure ends!

This is a lovely, entertaining story, that will keep children amused.  We’ve thoroughly enjoyed reading it.  We’re also eagerly awaiting a range of soft toys that are in prototype stage as I type.

  1. My 3 animals would be

Giraffe – I would like to keep my long legs
Jaguar – For speed and agility
Lion – I would like to have a lovely mane

  2. a giraffe neck and frogs legs and a cheetahs body , wanna see up high, be quick and jump around , thanks for the chance to win this xxxx

  3. Dog:- Man’s Best friend, and maybe my owner (master/mistress) would reward me by stroking my fur (releasing feel good hormones) when I behave well. Owl :- As I would like to be able to fly.
Tiger:- As I’d like to be able to run fast.

  4. A tiger’s body for his strength and power, a leopard’s legs for his speed and an eagles wings so I could fly from place to place

  5. Nice long legs of a giraffe (im only short) to see what being tall is all about, a monkey for the fun personality and an eagle so I could fly anywhere in the world 🙂

  6. I would be a giraffe to be nice and tall, a tiger to be nice and fierce and a dolphin to swim in the sea and to be intelligent

  7. Most definitely I would firstly choose to be a Cat as my cats just sit around all day, get petted, fed & loved. secondly a pig because the thought of rolling round in mud all day not mithered with anything sounds great! & lastly a centipede just so I had a feel for all those legs!!

I'd love to hear from you and try to reply to all comments
