disclosure:  we were sent these books for the purpose of review

We’ve been enjoying a couple of new books in our house this last week thanks to Top That! Publishing. Nothing I like more than new books to explore with my little bookworm.

The first book we looked at was Angry Birds Magnetic Mix-Up! This hardback book is aimed at children 3 years and over, so perfect for my little boy.  There are 10 magnetic pages and lots of magnetic pieces so you can be really creative and create your own Angry Birds.  I have to be honest and say that this book is our first experience of Angry Birds, so we have a lot to learn about them, but he loved the idea of this book immediately.  He sat for ages creating new Angry Birds and laughing at his creations.  Reading the story actually took a back seat for a while.

We get to meet the various Angry Birds characters – Bomb, Matilda, Red, Chuck and more besides as they defend the eggs from the Bad Piggies.  We obviously need to investigate the story behind these Angry Birds now as my son really enjoys making faces with this book.

What I also like is the storage case for the magnetic pieces.  We’ve had books like this in the past, where once you’ve opened the plastic container you can’t close it again – a pointless storage solution.  But not with this book – the container seals again after first opening and still works a week later after a lot of use from an eager Monkey!

Our next delight was The Tragic Tale of Dwayne The Eating Monster written by Valentina Mendicino.

This 24-page hardback book is full of lift the flap fun to entertain children aged 3 years and over.  The text is clear and the illustrations are rather humorous.

Dwayne just can’t stop eating everything he sees.  He’s worked his way through the fridge and the cat, and the neighbour’s dog.  He can’t stop eating and gets bigger and bigger which causes him more problems.  My son thought this book was very funny but he did get a bit alarmed when Dwayne started eating his way through the Moon and Earth!  At the end of the story, Dwayne meets his match.

We enjoyed both books and can recommend them.
