Disclosure: we were sent this puzzle for review
I think I might have mentioned that I love Formula One before? Maybe just once or twice! Ferrari, especially, and obviously I’m building my son’s enthusiasm too! A few weekends ago it was the Italian Grand Prix, how I would have loved to be there, part of the Ferrari mad Tifosi crowd. I have actually been to Monza, well more, driven through it, saw the signs for the Autodromo Nazionale Monza. I was on a working trip, we were running late, so no chance to peep through the gates at the hallowed circuit. Anyway, imagine our delight when a surprise package arrived from the lovely Orchard Toys, knowing our love for Formula One they sent us the Big Racing Car Talkabout Floor Puzzle to have a look at.
It wasn’t long before my son had got the box open in the kitchen and was busy making the puzzle up. As you can see from the box, the Big Racing Car Talkabout Floor Puzzle is aimed at children from 3-6 years of age, just right for him.
With 45 sturdy puzzle pieces, this provides my son with a challenge to build it. It’s actually the largest number of puzzle pieces he’s tackled, so he needed a bit of assistance to keep him focussed. Great for hand/eye coordination and manual dexterity too.
You may remember that we recently reviewed the new Who’s In Space? Talkabout puzzle. These are both great puzzles to develop observational skills. Asking lots of questions – why, how, when.
My son loved the fact that the car in this puzzle is Red, just like our favourite team – Ferrari. We talked about the Lollipop Man in the scene – one of his friend’s Dad used to be the Lollipop man at Lotus.
I love the idea of not just making the puzzle, but getting him to think about what he can see. What the story is, or what does he think is happening. As with all Orchard Toys games and puzzles, there are some handy tips on the back of the box to help you along too.
We’ve had lots of fun with this puzzle over the last few weeks. Apparently, the driver is called ‘Nando aLonso’ ….. sound vaguely familiar?? In this little clip, you can see us talking about what we can see…
Priced at £9.75 (2013 price) I think this is great value for money. As you would expect from Orchard Toys, it’s well made, there’s lots of play potential whilst learning too, and it would make a fab present for any racing mad fan out there.
Ooh, fab timing. I’m looking for birthday presents for my car mad son-this would be fun to do together.
It’s very good and lots of great detail, it now makes an appearance every time we watch a race!
That looks great! I love big puzzles that you can sit and do together and have lots going on to talk about.
6yo never liked puzzles which is a shame as I love them
Oh no, I’d be gutted if Monkey didn’t like them – I love puzzles
nice puzzle!
It’s good fun
This looks fab! Big Orchard Toys fans here!
As good as you would expect 🙂
my boys would love this, it looks great!
It is really good – Monkey loves it
Another great puzzle from Orchard toys. and I love the price too, Thanks
You can always count on Orchard Toys to deliver
We have the Big Police Car puzzle and my youngest loves it. There really is so much detail, they’re great for initiating all sorts of conversations 🙂
We’ve got the Big Tractor one too – I agree, the puzzles are great for getting kids to think and discuss what they can see. The Racing Car one fits in so well with my passion and it’s so funny that Monkey gets it out whenever the racing is on now. He can compare real life action to what he see’s in the puzzle – great!
